GDT ***Los Angeles Kings @ Calgary Flames GDT 3/24/26 6:00pm on FanDuel***

Most of all team just needs to get younger. It's painful to see Kopi moving slow as he does in his final season, and Doughty just lacking any explosion too.

Not a fan of either of the skills contests in the OTs, but it is what it is.

Not seen it but as a hard sci fi fan I did not like the book but I remember thinking that it felt written to be a movie, so maybe it's better like that.
I haven't read this one yet, but I did read The Martian and you're absolutely correct: Project Hail Mary was always intended to be a film.

After Jurassic Park was a big hit in the theaters, Spielberg asked Michael Crichton to write a sequel. Crichton didn't want to. but let's just say Spielberg and the publisher made him an offer he couldn't refuse (seven-digit payday).

When I was reading The Lost World it didn't really feel like a novel; it read like more of a screenplay. Ironically enough, Spielberg changed the end of the book and it became one of those rare cases where the movie is much better than the novel.

Anyway I just ordered Andy Weir's book Project Hail Mary. But I'll probably end up seeing the movie twice before reading the book, which is kinda weird, but it should be interesting.

So even if you didn't care for the book, I still recommend checking out the movie. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I'm trying to find out how many games we lost after leading. The only thing I can find is this website that says we have 20 blown leads & 9 blown 3rd period leads this season. Which is 6th worst in both categories.
Most NHL Blown Leads In 2025-26
As of right now the Kings are 11th in the draft. I would say they should try to tank. But I don't think they have to try very hard to do that.

Also, I know players don't get a minus if they're on the ice for a short handed goal. But shouldn't you get some kind of negative check mark if you're either on the ice or in the penalty box when the other team scores. Especially if your penalty results in a 2 man advantage. Just saying.

Congratulations to the following posters who correctly guessed within +/-1 of 48 combined shots on goal, nobody guessed the game would end in a shoot out:

Was on radio for this one on a pleasant evening drive from Chicago to Louisville. The inevitable third period penalties coming with exhortations from Josh and Daryl that the team play some kind of offense in the third period was exhaustingly familiar. Glad to hear Q getting loose and padding some stats, but they're going to need him to get those game deciding plays too. The sheer amount of defensive faceoffs lost down the stretch, or immediately flubbed after a win (listening to you Doughty) was heartbreaking.

Kings played as well as they could.
Luc just read this post.
He's going to add that quote to his list of things to say (excuses) to the fans at the end of the season press conference to let them know why the Kings crashed out yet again.

Well, he'd be correct. And that's the problem. The "as well as they could" still lands on the shoulders of Luc et al. It might be an excuse but it's a fact: they've put together a sh**y TEAM.

wow, I loved the book, and I'm all about SciFi of all genres - couldn't figure out how they were going to turn it into a movie while I was reading because of so much math & tech stuff. They skip all that in the movie. They handle the flashback parts really well, but not in the same way as they are in the book.

What is another good recent SciFi book for me to read? Need new material - so many books these days suck.

My copy of Project Hail Mary will be here tomorrow. I liked The Martian, but I still really miss Michael Crichton. His sci-fi techno-thrillers are my favorites. My favorite is State of Fear. Prey isn't bad either. But State of Fear is one of the few novels I've actually read twice.

Not a lot of new authors I've really got into. I've read a bunch of crap lately that-s really subpar.

State of Fear is 25 years old, but it's even more relevant today. His last novels were Micro, published posthumously in 2011 with the assistance of Richard Preston (The Hot Zone), and Eruption also published posthumously in 2024 with the assistance of James Patterson.

It's not pure sci-fi, but they are techno-thrillers with sci-fi elements. If haven't read them and you're bored, they're real page turrners.

I have not read these later Crichton works, and I love his stuff! I will check them out. Coma is still my fav besides Jurassic Park

I enjoyed Coma, too, but it was written by Robin Cook. Michael Crichton directed the film adaptation. He was a pretty good director...not great...but he had a few memorable films like Runaway (with Gene Simmons from Kiss as the bad guy) and The Great Train Robbery with Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland.

Once again I recommend State of Fear, Micro and Prey. Even Next isn't horrible, but it's kinda goofy.

The protagonist in State of Fear is my favorite: Peter Evans is a mild-mannered attorney who keeps getting put into these insane, horrible, death-defying situations and he's always saved but one of the kick-butt hyper-athletic women in his life. Some well-funded psycho eco- terrorists keep trying to kill him in all these high-tech gruesome ways. Some of them are truly terrifying.

Micro is about miniaturization, kind of like Honey I Shrunk the Kids if it was rated a hard R.

The heroes and the bad guys in his novels are almost carbon copies of each other, but aside from that I love his writing.

I don't read many new things so I couldn't say (I read 90% 1860-1960 books), but my wife would spam the Acotar series no matter the genre request.

Oh, yeah, duh....Robin Cook - but the Crichton film adaptation must be why I though it was his. I think that movie would still give me the creeps if I watched it now, and I am not easy to creep out.
