McLellan fired

Quenneville? Seriously?

This should be enough to convince you that he should never coach again:

Brad Aldrich investigation[edit]

On October 26, 2021, an independent investigation into how the Blackhawks responded to claims that former video coach Brad Aldrich sexually assaulted prospect Kyle Beach during the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs revealed that Quenneville, as well as the rest of the Blackhawks' senior leadership team, opted to defer any action on Aldrich until after the Stanley Cup Finals.

According to the report, Quenneville was particularly concerned about causing a distraction before the finals. Three weeks after the allegations were raised, Aldrich was forced to resign by HR and Legal after opting not to comply with their investigation and subsequently pleaded guilty to assaulting a player at a Michigan high school where he was a volunteer coach.[12]

Quenneville had previously claimed he had no knowledge that Aldrich sexually assaulted anyone before Beach and the high school player sued the Blackhawks,[13] but multiple witnesses stated that he was called into a meeting to discuss the Aldrich matter shortly after the Blackhawks defeated the Sharks to advance to the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals.[14] Multiple people in the meeting claimed that the matter discussed did not involve sexual assault and then CEO, John Mcdonough, in the meeting committed to getting more information and handling the matter while directing Quenneville and hockey operations focused on the Stanley Cup Finals.[15]

On October 27, 2021, Quenneville was summoned to a meeting the following day with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman to discuss his role in the incident.[16] Within hours of that meeting, Quenneville announced his immediate resignation as Panthers coach.[17] According to a formal NHL statement, Bettman, the Panthers, and Quenneville mutually agreed that "it was no longer appropriate" for Quenneville to stay on. Bettman also announced that Quenneville will have to meet with him before he is allowed to work in the NHL again.[18]
Yes, I am aware of the Kyle Beach abuse. And if he met with Bettman and he decided that Quenneville made enough penance, then I would be fine with his hiring.

I know a lot of us are spiking the ball on Todd’s grave right now but let’s not completely ignore that he did get us back into the playoffs and we were competitive.

Good work Todd. Enjoy your retirement.
Agreed. As much as this needed to happen (and sooner), this should not be any kind of celebration.
A good, honorable man, lost his job. Maybe one day he does get a shot at a cup. And I'd cheer for him
as long as it's not us.

That seems very plausible. There’s no reason to change a head coach if the plan is more of the same. Hiller has a reputation as an offense tactician so maybe we’ll see him favor some creativity in the gameplan. It sure would be nice to see the Kings score some more goals every night.
Let's see an aggressive forecheck and limit the 1-3-1 usage, if not abandon it.

The best part is the timing...
Tomorrow we will get the glorious news again that Todd has been fired... And the next day, and the next day....

So glad it's finally done. I've never liked McLellan for the Kings as he would never take them to a Cup. Sure, he's a NHL coach who can get a team into the playoffs, but not a championship head coach. I will celebrate for the mere reason that I like the Kings more now.

When Blake goes and Emerson better follow, I will like the Kings more. (I realized that I didn't even know he was Asst GM until today -- WTF, Emerson???)
When Luc goes and we can finally get better uniforms, I will like the Kings even more.

As for the old boys' club -- there are 2 groups. There's the Luc, Blake, Emerson, Murray crowd. Then there's the Greene, Stoll group. Only one of those groups won Cups playing with the team and that same group was part of the character necessary to turn this team into a championship team at that time. Guess which one I'd prefer to hang on to? Because this team has been lacking character with Blake's more recent moves.

It's been long overdue. The Walrus will no longer be behind the Kings bench for the rest of the season, which is good 'cause he's gotten stale over time with his outdated methods. So Jim Hiller will take over as the interim. For now, he's only a temporary solution until Blake finds a suitable replacement for Todd. For that matter, Blake's job as GM isn't as secure either.

After this season ends, management has to make serious changes.

Blake, Luc & Bergevin gone.
Changes in the development staff and program.

Blake had every GM's dream set up:
A scouting dept. that nails it (of course there are misses)
blue chip prospects
experienced winners, future Hall of Fame players and Kings legends... who still can play
an up and coming club
exciting kids who bring enthusiasm and hope
and the biggest need...salary cap flexibility

And turned all of that into a dumpster fire.
Zero goaltending prospects, Portillo maybe?
Those kids who can't get playing time (in the correct spots) cos the coach had trust issues with them
A coach unwilling or unable to make adjustments
A team with no size, meanness, grit or sandpaper
Rumblings of trading our only really physical d-man and a kid who needs playing time with a real center
to utilize his weapon and be a real threat. At least on the power play.
Trading quality assets for a tree stump who couldn't give a sh*t

Blake should not be allowed to make any more moves with this roster.
He's proven that he is incapable of building a contender.

And so much for Blake's presser. He assured us Coach Todd wasn't going anywhere. LOL! Um, yeah, right Rob.

IMHO, Rob needs to hit the bricks, too. That press conference was funnier than anything on Comedy Central, and just as predictable as the sunrise.

Paging Coach Mitchrock.

^^^100% this and your last post too about the good old boys club.

As far as coaches go, as time passes I am even more angry with the move. We fired Todd and replaced him with Hiller. WT actual F?!? We needed to get a fresh voice, but not so fresh that we looked OUTSIDE OF THE LOCKER ROOM for the voice. As a fan, I hope Hiller can lead us to a Cup. But why get an "interim coach" in a season where we capped out the team so badly that we were planning to ice a 20-player roster for the opening months and we pushed in a ton of chips to trade for PLD and extend Gavrikov? We're both all in and having an interim coach. That seems like madness. Get the best coach for the job; you've already spent a ransom on the current roster.

Maybe Rob and Luc weren't allowed to make a long-term, big money commitment to a new coach. It would be foolish to make that hire now if there's a significant possibility of a new GM and/or President this summer.
