Movies: Your guilty pleasures

Dunno, despite not being perfect, I still think that Crazies remake is too good to be filed under guilty pleasure.

Still, if we are gonna talk about horror films that have flaws, but are well worth watching, I will then say that this also belongs here.

Dread (2009)

Based on a Clive Barker short story. Generally really effective and when it gets going it hits you pretty hard. :O

I unironically and ununapologetically enjoy 1986's "Howard the Duck."

[edit] I corrected second word from "ironically" to unironically." The apparent typo was due to my original post using a smartphone, which may have led to an unintended meaning. I genuinely enjoy that movie.

I remember, when I saw it in the theater they gave us a card, filled with Dune-to-English translations guide. How in the hell we were supposed to see them in the dark...

I enjoyed that even before I read the book. There was nothing else like it. It made no bones about the fact that those characters lived in a world that the audience didn't, and hardly bothered trying to explain it. They knew what was going on, and you either were able to make the necessary inferences or you weren't.

And then I read the book and it's still not as bad as everyone says.

It's such a beautiful disaster. Such a liquid, abstract movie. But then it tries to actually be a movie...kinda sort of...then it gets very 'experimental', and Ice Cube. Jason Statham. Come on, it's a classic.

I really liked this movie, too.

They way it links the stories of the main characters into the story of the times, and some great performances. The supporting roles from Elizabeth Banks and William H. Macy were especially good.

I remember being very confused about Jeanine Garofalo being portrayed as a bit of a minx in that one, especially compared to her stand up work.

She isn't AS bad as David Cross...but similar. Seemingly highbrow, but when it comes to movie roles, not quite as particular. Patton Oswalt is the rare bird that can make it work.
