Aside from the obviously pleasurable tone and cadence of Mr Nickson's voice he shared something which I've always felt to be, if not totally unique, then certainly a profound strength in the Kings broadcasters; the impartiality and overriding love for the game itself and within that the skills and the players themselves and I mean any team's players. Beyond their amazingly knowledgeable insights and observations, they've always been unconditionally fair and interested in both teams on the ice. They've always, Jim Fox too, shared out the compliments and highlights. They've never, ever been "homers" like, for example, the Ducks commentators and another group which stick out, the St Louis Blues commentators.
I have always felt so proud of our guys for that and, not to say the impartiality will now depart, but I shall always miss that perfect combination of the tone and timbre of both Nick Nickson and Bob Miller voices and the enthusiasm, regardless of which team, for everyone and everything on the ice.
Around watching the games themselves, win or lose, it always, for me, made every broadcast feel a warm and joyful experience and I believe I can pay no greater, more sincere compliment than that in return for the awesome dedication and service Mr. Nick Nickson (and Mr. Bob Miller before him) has given to all of us hockey fans over the years.
