I have a definite political view that I don't apologize for. But I always try to keep my politics separate from my hockey fandom. I hate how this win has become politicized. Nobody owns this team or the gold medal. If you're liberal, conservative, or non-political, it doesn't matter. It's a win for all Americans. Yeah, I wished some of the guys hadn't been wussies & laughed when Trump said he had to invite the women. But it's not going to take away how great their win was. If you're a fan of hockey or Team USA but not a fan of this Administration, don't let them take this win away from you.

So proud of our boys. So glad that President Trump, the best POTUS of my lifetime, gave these boys the recognition and credit they deserve.
Also glad the women's hockey team was mature enough to put politics aside and accept the WH's invite at a later date. Very proud of their accomplishment as well! They deserve the honor.

Excuse me, but the main provocateur that politicized this win was Trump himself. Don't blame people for disagreeing with his blatant mishandling of this win.
Let's not act like he's not a polarizing persona and he, himself, basically hijacked their win for his own promotion and to inflate his ego (as if it needed more of that).
The players also have their share of blame here. They went along with this politicization of their win.
Fact is, the way Donald handled this is tastless, immature and disrespectful. But that's the name of his game, right? People can like it, sure, it's a free country, but that tells a lot about them...
PS: it's interesting how one 77 post lurker and one basically entirely new poster come to Donald's defense here. You don't have to defend him, he doesn't care about your drooling over him on a message board.

I agree he mishandled the win. But it's also his followers, including much of the media. And I don't blame new fans for jumping on the bandwagon. But they should know this isn't exclusively their win, even if they think it is.

Its standard for presidents to congratulate winning teams and have them visit. Has been for years.
I love the way he rallied patriotic support for the teams historic gold medal.
Attributing it to ego or trying to shame fans that enjoy the moments, is just plain sad and hateful. For those that attempt to use these divisive tactics, it really "tells a lot about them."

I'm not saying people shouldn't be proud of this win. FAR from it. I think you SHOULD be proud of it.
I'm accusing Donald of abusing this win for political points by making the whole charade out of it and doing so in a way that's sad, immature and insulting to women. Why was that necessary? Also, what the hell was FBI director doing in the locker room? What on Earth has he done to earn that and show off with it? Didn't Donald whine about deep state back in the day? Oh, he IS the deep state now, and that's fine, eh?
One thing is to congratulate someone for achieving something, completely another is doing so while insulting a lot of people in the process with cheap, childinsh joke.
If a Democrat did a cheap and childish political stunt like this and, for example, decided only to invite POC sportmen and women, you'd be all over him/her. And I'd strongly condemn that kind of approach, too. I'm far from a fan of DNC. As a non-American I think they're a flip side of the same coin, with rare exceptions (Bernie). But at least they aren't so blatant, childish and divisive.
In the end, it's Donald being Donald. Divide et empera. All part of the plan and I'm sure he's enjoying all this. But people shouldn't consider this the new normal...the WAY he handles many things as POTUS shouldn't be acceptable. There's being brave and assertive, and then there's being plain idiotic and immature only because he knows nobody can do anything about it. I'm someone who enjoys discussing hockey, Kings hockey in particular. That's why I'm on Let's go Kings message board discussing hockey 99,999% of time I'm on this board, where I spend 0,5% of time of my average day to day life.
Are you maybe the guy on a hockey message board that doesn't really post...until politics are discussed, maybe? What happened in 2017 that motivated you to join LGK?

Your president forced himself and his controversial nature into hockey, and as a result in a topic on LGK about Olympic hockey. Don't point fingers at me, boy who rather plays hockey than posts. Why haven't you played hockey then instead of reading this topic and deciding to reply now, of all the rare times?

Sadly, the president turned a moment of national pride for ice hockey into a propaganda piece, and the men's team fell for it and became a political prop. (FFS the president was posting AI memes and videos of him playing ice hockey against the Canadians).
C: Sad to see the Women's team take collateral damage from this and it was no fault of their own.
