***Philadelphia Flyers vs. LA Kings New Year's Eve GDT 12/31/22 1:00pm on BSW***

WTF was up with that first line and PP unit though...so bad. My niece's hockey games were more structured than whatever this was.

Another signature early-afternoon Kings performance... Anyways, Happy New Years all!

When the Kings fix their inconsistent level of of play is when they become a legit winner. Until then, it will be more of the same.

They beat teams they should lose to (VGK, Avs) & lose to the 12-17-7 Flyers. Is this an indication of how bad the Pacific is this year?

Just about a year ago someone asked me, "how are the Kings doing?"

I told him, "good enough to break my heart."

They did that last playoff and continue to play that way.

I just tuned in here in the 3rd... Kings can't seem to pass or play hockey at all. LOL

Periods 1 & 2 were really good & fun. The Kings fell apart in the 3rd. That PP where we gave up the shorty was just so, so, so bad

I know I am late, but for the trivia question, I will guess

Part 1 - Phillip Danault. Probably an assist from Arvidsson. That is my only guess. Nobody else.

Part 2 - Probably the 3rd period. I am thinking a short handed goal. Maybe a empty netter to make the other team feel like crap.

Happy New Year my friends.

I was just looking at the standings> Kings have played the most games 40 so far in their conference. 5 more than Colorado and six more than the Kraken who are point out of a playoff spot. Now if the Kings were to go into a losing slump those teams below them with games on hand could very well pass the Kings in the standings and the Kings could find themselves out of a playoff spot. If this trend of the Kings playing more games and teams below them having games in hand continues towards the last part of the season. if the Kings don't build a big enough point lead, those teams with games on hand will have a great shot at passing the Kings and leaving them out of a playoff spot, which means the Kings really cannot afford to lose many games because they don't have the luxury of having games on hand on the the other teams below them. They absolutely have to win the games they are supposed to win and this game against Phiily is one they should have won, they cannot afford to loose to weaker teams. Cause loses like this could very well be the dagger that kills their playoff chances.

Congratulations to the following posters who correctly guessed Danault and/or that the gwg would be in the third:

Well unlike the Kings at least a ton of you went out winners in the poll last night. The special teams show excatley what gets this team into trouble, any time they get complacent it bites them in the ass. They desperately need to find a way to play with urgency, and that starts with Todd accepting that means more ice time evenly spread so his horses can gallop a little more. What they're doing isn't working and it's only going to get worse during the closing rush. 6 games to go before the team gets a 4 day break. That break is likely to precipitate whatever move it is Blake has up his sleeve. Hope the guys get theirselves refocused prior to it. In the meantime, Happy New Year everyone! Hope the year starts off well, or at least with a boody mary.

Whoever they have scouting Quick was spot on, I think all goals went in High Glove side shoulder - Top Corns on him, at least three of them were in the same spot.

Kings are 12th in the NHL in points percentage. 5th in the conference. I think it's time that the fanbase stops with the "we are bad" rhetoric. We are absolutely inconsistent, gotta beat teams like AZ and Philly but losing to bad teams isn't unique...the top tier teams still lose to the bottom feeders frequently. Kings win both of those games and they are tied with Vegas in points. This is a playoff team as long as they don't have a significant losing streak in the second half.

I was at work for this game but watched the first period of the replay and you could see where this was headed from the very beginning despite the early score.

They were just plainly outworked and it was apparent early. Beat to every loose puck and checked off nearly every possession with physical play. There was stretch there in the 1st where we couldn't get out of our zone with all their hitting.

This team desperately needs a sense of urgency and some physicality from somewhere.

Having expectations for success is crazy. This team definitely is a roller coaster.

Yep, that's the hard part...knowing which team is going to show up each night. My expectations have been set accordingly but I do expect them to win more than lose at this point. This next stretch vs Dallas, Boston, Vegas, Edm, Sharts & NJ could be very telling which direction this team will go in the second half. They could beat all of these teams but could also very well go 0-6. Knowing this team, they'll finish 3-3 with 5 games going to OT.

Top Corn has been open for 10 years on Quicky - because of his "crab-like" style (Pierre McGuire's term)

Flyers probably learned it from these guys - who taught Toffoli a thing or two:

Quickie is done. He needs to retire after this season. Copley probably saves two of the first three goals.

Kings special teams play will be their downfall if they don't fix things fast. Opponents' special teams are going to eat them alive in the playoffs.

I don't think we are bad. But we're also not good. I get annoyed when Faust makes idiotic statements like "if the Kings win today and Vegas loses in regulation then we could be first place in the Pacific to close out 2022". While that is technically correct, it makes it sound like the Kings are some kind of juggernaut when we're really more of a non-contender playoff team. And FWIW, Vegas won while the Kings lost in regulation.

Aside from the Sharks, the Kings have to face real teams over the next couple of weeks and not cupcakes. We'll have a better idea of just how good this team is after the homestand.

A potential improvement is to drop Kopitar and Doughty from special teams, including 3x3. They too often transform the #1PP into a predictable pass around the perimeter followed by low percentage, one timer from distance. They turn the PK into a more stationary box which can be (and is) beat more easily. They can't be aggressive because the speed to recover isn't there. On 3x3 they typically match up against the oppositions best skaters. Kings should use their best skaters. Is there a Kings rule that at least one of the 3x3 be a defenseman?
