I -really- want to like Byfield, but…

Editing to add before everyone descends upon me, this game was absolutely LOST by poor goaltending.
It feels like he has taken a step back again. Hopefully he can build that confidence back up to where he was towards the end of last season.

And did we have any Kempe discussion during this game? (Still driving home).... The man is INVISIBLE!! I can't believe he would be playing this poorly just out of spite over contract talks. Maybe he has an injury? Or his wife makes him get up to feed the baby every night??

And yet he leads the team in scoring… but I agree. I think he has mentally checked out on this organization.

Agreed. Even as a swede, I feel it’s pretty risky giving him a max term contract around the rumored $12 million… 😱

Big Save Dave got the Isles their first win against the Oilers. He wasn't amazing by any stretch last season but at least he was competent.

WTF was Luc thinking bringing in Holland. Just cause he is as old as Yoda doesn't mean he is going to be wise or good. Ceci was a joke. So far, Forsberg has been a huge downgrade. Perry is despised by the fan base. Dumoulin and Armia are decent but not providing huge value. Spence is +3 with 4A in 3 games and Gavrikov is muching minutes in NY. We're objectively worse and capped out too.

Tonight's game and the arena presentation were both brutal.

To be fair I'd rather have Dumoulin at 4x3 than Gavrikov at, what, 8-9 million x7 or 8 years or whatever it would take to sign him, since he prefered the Rags.

Armia will turn out to be a great signing. But Ceci? Super bad. Perry? To be seen, but definitely high risk for a disaster. Forsberg? Still a bit soon, he shouldn't be THAT bad.

But overall...it's not looking great. Spence's success in Ottawa will make this even worse/more painful.

No question... goaltending sucked tonight.
That might be the worst goaltending performance I've seen by any Kings goalie in 40 years, since the days of Gary freakin Laskoski. I had this one circled on the calendar as a game I was considering attending. Thank God the Dodgers saved me.

If I had been there for this game, I would have been furious, then depressed. Talk about deflating. Any optimism I had about this team was crushed last night.

Kevin Fiala is a fine productive player most nights but I’ve never understood why Blake felt the need to break the bank to add him to a team dead set on playing a defensive grinding style. He’s always stuck out like a sore thumb when he isn’t 100% fully engaged and on his game. Just baffling.
That Faber trade was the deal that Blake jumped the shark. The Kings were loading up with young drafted players.
I liked that direction.
Then, boom. Trade away a first round choice.
Downward slide began...

Many issues last night. I'd like to blame it on our terrible goaltending, but you're not winning with two goals so...

The team looks sloppy as hell and whenever that's the case, you have to look at the coach.

Lmao I've felt that way forever, he's not "our future" but whatever.

I didn't watch but there's no way it was worse than anything around 2007 or so.

Beachball?

He's a very emotional player so any of those reasons wouldn't surprise me, and he's always been streaky. What's bad is I think he's about the only reason for watching (I kinda like Clarke..) but when he doesn't show up well.. it's not good.

Besides all that - it BLOWS MY MIND that Hiller is still head coach.
