***PLAYOFFS!! Round 1 Game 1 GDT 5/2/22 7:00pm on BSW & ESPN2***

Boy, all its taken is one playoff game for me to start disliking Draisaitl and McDavid. The dive by Leon was chicken **** and McDavid with the moving pick to wipe out 2 Kings defenders in their own zone with no call on either play left my jimmies twisted.

I didn't have too much of a problem with Kassian running Byfield. It's a good lesson for the kid and he took the hit like a pro. Let that plug Kassian keep running around head hunting. Eventually it will come back to bite them. It's been his M.O. since day 1 of his NHL career.

Power play sucked as expected. Couldn?t stay out of the box for half the game.
Byfield looked as out of place as Kobe in his first playoff series against Utah where he took a million shots and missed all of them.
In short, paraphrasing a question Bill Walton used to ask Ralph Lawler about the Clippers and Sean Rooks (while enthusing ?Print the playoff tickets now? despite the team having been mathematically eliminated for months), WHERE WOULD THE KINGS BE WITHOUT TREVOR MOORE?

we have now scored 133% of the goals in our ENTIRE previous playoff series.
We also scored four times as many goals tonight as Boston, Minnesota and Tampa Bay combined.

Edmonton has lost seven consecutive playoff games.

Mike Smith has lost ten straight playoff games he has started.

After thinking about it, a few thoughts...

1) Playoff Quickie is back!
2) Trevor Moore is something else. When we got him I thought he was a big nothing burger. I am very happy to be wrong,
3) This is such a gritty team. Bending but not breaking time and again
4) Special teams will kill this team if it doesn't improve
5) Kings need to keep things simple. Too many times they tried to make the more difficult play when a simple one was available

I keep saying it: this team reminds me of the 2014 team. Not the talent, but the attitude. They don't get down on themselves after something bad happens, they just keep plugging along.

Also, Iaffalo has rediscovered his offense at just the right time. But I hope VA is back and in his rightful spot on the "second" line next game.

1.byfield sux...either sux or a prodject-does not belong on playoff ice..
2. Kopitar needs to do something..
3. Blake added nothing to this team so enjoy the playoffs

Hmmm... I read this and think the poster sux, needs to go away, and adds nothing to the conversation of this fun Kings team.

Hell yeah!!! What a great win! The Kings weren't perfect. They took too many penalties. But the guys stepped up big time. Quick was vintage 2012. And Trevor Moore was awesome. His goal was great but I loved his pass to Iafallo even better. I'm a little calmer right now but I'm still pumped.

Go Kings Go!

Draisaitl was slashing everything that moved last night. Would love to see Brown or Lemieux line him up.

Lizotte was tremendous. Looked like a playoff tested veteran. Just amazing.

I am waiting for playoff Brown to cream someone. Not sure its gonna happen. So, Andersson?

Spence, like Lizotte, looked like belonged out there. 23 shifts.

Haven't felt this much excitement in years, go Kings!

Since everyone is talking about how this playoffs is for the kids development, my thoughts:

Kaliyev - had some nice pp shifts and looked dangerous. Didn't see much impact 5v5, but didn't look like a liability.

Byfield - when he got his stick lifted by McDavid, I thought to myself that he isnt going to get much time the rest of the game. Battled during the cycle in o-zone for some shifts, but no dangerous pressure. Still havent seen flashes of game breaking talent yet. Next year will be the real test since he has been giving a center slot.

Spence - speaking of flashes of talent, his move in the first where he changed directions twice on the right boards to shake the forechecker, and made a smooth outlet pass. That reminded me of a similar move by doughty in his rookie year, but when he was down low. He got run over by the bigger oilers forwards but he recovered well. Maybe the next Lubo?

Durzi - loved how his shot in front of Draisaitl scored off a deflection. Especiallg after that punk slash earlier. Shows he gets under the opponent's skin. Huge balls and confidence. Also got run over in D zone and some of his pp decisions seemed pretty risky. Looking forward to his development, maybe a nasty version of Matthew Schneider?

Mikey Anderson - is he even a prospect anymore? Super solid d. Loved how he stood up McDavid one on one.

Blake is GM of the year for his acquisition of Danault. What a player. And our old reliables Quick and Kopi both played very well even though Kopi didn't score.I thought a couple of the refs calls were questionable one of which leading to an Oilers goal. And in general the young guys were great. I think we have a real shot at winning this series.

Lemieux played on 2:59 - Byfield 5:33

Crazy ice times tonight.

Todd explained this in the presser, that essentially it was tight and became a 3 line game, but you are correct that if Byfield isn?t going to make the simple plays, he won?t play. Good first taste for him, just make simple plays. You can?t do the Junior stuff up here, not yet?

Lemieux is what he is. Big body deterrent, his goal was a bonus.

Hopefully Arvidsson is back soon as he is a big time threat on every shift.

Spence is killing it. Tremendous composure for a kid. He?s going to be a really good one.

It’s gonna be interesting how guys like Spence, Mikey, Byfield, Durzi etc playoff beards look after awhile.

Seriously.

We gave away a couple of cheap penalties. One might as well been a hard hit on McJesus. It's playoff hockey. You just can't even hit him is the thing, he's unbelievable.

I feel like if someone lined up a check he'd like phase shift thru them and score 3 goals in 1 shot.

No need to go out of our way to hit McJesus. Just have the backcheck support and take away the time and space.

Basically, the exact opposite of what they did on his goal.

The Zetterberg/Datsyuk wings used to frustrate the hell out of opponents with their back checking systems and making sure anywhere you turned their would be a red wing ready to defend or take the puck.

Philly D + Arvi have been blistering successes for Blake, but picking up Edler has proven to be another master stroke as well. He's playing really well. Crucial piece of veteran leadership and experience on D.

My biggest concern is TMac not utilizing our depth as much . Oilers area top heavy team Mcdavid and Draisatly can play 25 min a night but Kopi can’t . If he continues with the same deployment Kopi will be toast after game 2. I feel like Kupari is made for this series, fast and big . Good win Quick was a salute beast in net.

Could not agree more. He seems to really enjoy the physical play and hits hard.
