***PLAYOFFS!! Round 1, Game 1 GDT LA Kings @ Edmonton Oilers 7:00pm on BSW & ESPN***

Oh My God! I just finished watching the game & the post game show. What a win! To go from how it stared to how it ended was incredible. They went from going 0-4 on the PP to 2-6. And they went from 3 penalties in the 1st including a 2 man disadvantage with a PP goal allowed to just 1 more penalty in the 2nd & none in the 3rd. And it seemed like they got more confident as the game went on. So many guys had great games. Kopi, Kempe, AI of course. But our 2 additions from C-Bus had great games, along with Arvi & the rest of that line. Even Lizotte, who didn't have the best game drew a penalty through hustle.

I haven't checked if there's a WTS yet or looked on twitter. But from what I saw with the fans throwing stuff on the ice & knowing who these people are, I can only imagine the wailing & moaning going on with Oilers fans. But their players are the ones who took the penalties. While the Kings got more disciplined as the game went on, the Oilers got more undisciplined.

I know it's just 1 game. But stealing home ice advantage from them is huge. And I'm not sure but I think the game 1 winner wins the series close to 70% of the time. But I'm not counting victories yet. They just have to keep playing like they did in the 3rd & they could knock McJesus & the Oilers out & make all their fans cry. Damn, I'm still pumped up. If I don't relax soon I'm going to have to take a gummy so I can get to sleep.

Go Kings Go!

Lmao. I'm right here with you. Couldn't sleep. Game ended 1:30, super amped, 3am hit, and nope there's no way. PLAYOFFS! lol

I thought DD and Moore has horrible starts to the game. Both improved and DD is often like that, he takes a while to get going but once he does... You almost want DD to have a bad game when we win because he rarely has two bad games in a row.

When he tossed McWhoever to the ice it was a statement. After they boo'd him relentlessly all night. We needed that to happen. That hit was for Mikey.

That was a great moment. Total statement and DD was great from that moment on.

I woke up this morning to shocking news of a Kings victory. After the Oilers went up 2-0, with the way the Kings have played them up to that point and two games previous, I admin I gave up on them. Got a good night's sleep, though.

Korpi was great. I wanted Copley in, but Korpi was.. great.

If you're bored and want to see some funny internet meltdown "what they're saying's" that I'm too lazy to make a thread like LGK of old:

Yeah F me game ended 1:30am my time, got too amped, couldn't sleep!

OMG the whining on their board is absolutely hilarious! Talk about poor losers...and I thought ducks fans were obnoxious back in the 90's...

Great come back from the Kings. However, the penalty in OT was bogus, IMO. If that call had been against the Kings the hue and cry here would be deafening.

jom

Jarret Stoll made an very salient point on the post game show last night (he’s excellent in this role btw, hope he sticks around for a bit) that he really didn’t like the idea of McDavid killing that penalty in OT because he’s not one of their most experienced penalty killers. And that moment called for experience. Sure enough Iafallo was the closest man to McDavid and he was left completely alone in the slot.

I think if you read between the lines Stoll implied that McDavid was out there just to get the free empty net goal.

Total team win. Felt like Doughty really found his swagger in the 3rd and OT. Hopefully he brings that in Game 2. If the Kings can get the Oilers down 0-2 the amount of media pressure on McDavid and the entire team might just cause them to crack.

To DD the boo's probably sounded like Drreeeeewwwwwww!

Can't win the Conn Smythe without the points, right?

Just finish the game instead of giving the fans a moment ya goofballs.

I'm pretty sure he was commenting on the OT powerplay, so no EN goal possible. He did imply that perhaps EDM was thinking about the shorthanded threat that McDavid is. But you shouldn't be getting that ahead of yourself in an OT playoff game.

I stuck to the local broadcast, but one of my pet peeves for National broadcasts is how these guys get jobs because of name recognition and are extremely lazy. Takes work away from hard working analysts who actually watch the games.

I always have both going, shift back to ESPN when I want the alternate (or terrible) take on certain plays.

What a gut check win.
Kempe is the tip of the spear.
I'm happily eating some crow for saying QB should be off the 1st line, he played a smart and solid game.
Kopi showed he's got plenty of gas in the tank.
Edler was as slow as anyone I've ever seen.
Happy to see EDM gooning it up cos they think it will win:
Bouchard on Moore, Kane on Kempe, Bouchard on Moore again.
Desharnais swinging his stick like a blindfolded kid at a Pinata and CRYING like a girl about it cos he won the prize, hahahaha.
True toughness is not doing those things, true toughness is taking them and playing through it.
We had the 'deer in the headlights' look for stretches until Kempe scored.
Viktor for Conn Smythe!!!! What a stud he is.
I liked them trying to establish Arty as a one timer threat on the pp, get it in their head cos he can rip it.
Kupari, JAD and Tonka must get their feet under them, we need them, they looked overwhelmed.
Joonas was fantastic.
Stay disciplined.
Such a classy fanbase up there.

And, always and forever...F the Oil.

I was stuck with Sportsnet. My god. Awful. 90% gambling ads. Was like it was the Globetrotters playing.. not the globetrotters. They didn't even mention the Kings I don't think, or maybe I just yelled over them too much. I did end up muting it. The only thing I clearly remember was "McDavid's obviously gonna score the winning goal" and them all high fiving and busting out the massage oils.

9 times out of 10, the Kings lose that game. One important (among many) takeaway: The Oilers power play came as advertised (1/3). But, the Kings power play matched it (2/6, same %) and won the game for them. If nothing else, this will cause the Oilers to take pause before taking as many liberties with Kings players. There is no greater deterrent than scoring a power play goal, which, as we saw last night, can change the outcome of a game. The Oilers now will have to respect the Kings PP.

Having had a night to think on it and let the emotions die down, heres what sticks with me:

1) The kings played an incredibly patient game waiting for their system and effort to meld the game. Oilers shot their wad in the first, but they could not sustain that effort.

2) Kings won game one last year 4-3 and AI was a huge factor in that one taking VAs spot. This game he was huge in Gabes spot.

3) last year Edmonton smoked the boys 6-0 in game 2, and some of it felt like the boys had a mission accomplished banner thinking it would be ok at home. They better have learned from that.

4) It'll be interesting to see if Todd changes the lineup in any way. For whatever reason he doesn't trust JAD, it would be nice if Gabe or Fiala could make that decision for him.

5) somewhere in the third Moore suddenly looked like the Moore of old and all the sudden Danault and VA were not only holding Drais back but carrying the play. We need that version of Moore desperately.

6) Lastly, you know Edmonton learned a few things last year to go as far as they did, game two expect them to be working the refs just as much as they were working the king's on the boards.

7) If the kings keep playing this stoic non confrontational style, it'll be beautiful if they win, but my word does it take some getting used to as a fan.
