GDT ***Playoffs Round 1, Game 3 GDT LA Kings @ Edmonton Oilers 4/25/25 7:00pm on FanDuel, TNT, tru, max***

I know everyone's pointing to Hiller's challenge as the reason for the loss. And maybe he shouldn't have challenged. But that's not the reason for the loss. It was playing passive for the entire 3rd period up to that point. They should've learned after game 1 not to take their foot off the gas. Well, they did learn it in game 2 but forgot it in game 3.

But let's hope the players have more resolve & determination in them than some of you here. Otherwise they'd be giving up already. For some of you it's going to take actually winning the series for you to believe we can beat Edmonton. Look, it's just 1 loss. We're still up 2-1. And we have a chance to split in Edmonton. And then win on home ice.

Go Kings Go!

Had the goal gone straight in on the kick, it definitely would have been disallowed. The thing that surprises me is that they actually allow players to kick at pucks in the crease at all due to safety reasons. Which is why the rule exists in the first place.
Yeah, it is kind of dumb when you think about it. Actually, the rule says you cannot "propel" the puck into the net with a kicking motion. Same spot on ice, same kicking motion is a goal if the puck is "deflected" and would not be a goal if it was "propelled". Yeah, whatever NHL.

The Kings have the team to beat Edmonton. I’m convinced of that. I’m suddenly unsure they’ve got the coach. It’s more than the extremely ill-advised replay (Hiller did partially implicate himself in that decision, post-game). It’s the TOI/player usage and the 3rd period tactics. These are things Hiller directly controls and he’s being far too conservative/passive.

We have the firepower to beat Edmonton I'd say -- which is weird, but we're missing the defense, goaltending, and it's a matter of if the offense can keep it up thru 3 periods each game - which yes may be a coaching problem.

The passive play in the 3rd was also on the coach. Hope Hiller learned something from giving away the game last night. I was pissed off watching it. Hope the players are pissed off too.

He’s rolling 3 F lines and 2 D lines. That’s way too much pressure on those players. He really needs to ice some of the other guys. It has to be a team effort. Run a 12/6 and give the 4th line guys some time. I thought Malott and Helenius did really well in the limited time they had. Malott especially had good puck possession and a nice drive to the net in the 3rd in the few minutes he played.

WTF, why challenge when the refs and Toronto have already looked at it? Bad challenge, PP goal in seconds. Ugh. What a great game ruined.
It boggles the mind. And even if he asks me nice, I'm not going to Vegas with Hiller. He's like one of those guys that shows up to a casino in a limo with a girl in each arm and the next day you see him standing out in the street without a penny in his pocket hitchhiking back to LA.

I think the low energy was due to…low energy. He’s rolling only three F lines and 2 D pairings. The TOI is quickly wearing them down.

Okay, well reality is not always a pretty thing, but it is what it is. Worst case scenario, we come back to LA tied up 2-2.

Once again, it could be far worse than that. Factoring in all possible scenarios before the series started, we could potentially have been looking at being swept Sunday and fighting for our first win.

instead we're looking at the possibility of going up 3-1 in the series.

So the glass is still more than half full, and we need to remain positive and optimistic.

I still say Kings in 6.
I have faith that the Kings team can do it.

It seems like the only thing standing in their way is Hiller. I was a champion for him all season. But his decision making has taken a turn for the worse here in the POs.

I've watched the replay of that challenged goal a few times, and it sure looks to me like Kane knocked the stick out of Darcy's hands. That should have been goaltender interference if knocking the goalie's stick away is not allowed.

I'm a little confused on the TV side of things. I thought the local broadcast teams can cover the 1st round. Did they change that rule?

jom

The Kings giving a point-by-point clinic on how not to play with a 4-3 lead. Lose every faceoff, fail to clear, sit back and play a 20-minute penalty kill.
Their inability to clear the puck boggles my mind. If I had a dollar for every time I looked at my daughter and said, "we can't clear the puck, they (whomever they are playing) are going to score", and then the other team scores...I might be able to retire by now.
