PLD and how I learned to quit worrying about the bomb

Not to dime the lights any further, but I just discovered that our LA Kings have the fewest wins (2) in the last 10 games than any other team in the NHL. Ranked 32nd, yeah, that is going to get it done.

Kings often play like crap on nights with big ceremonies, so... we have that going for us tonight vs the Sabres.

As human beings, I prefer Todd to PLD, who has a primadona-ness about him (at least my perception.) Todd wants guys to work hard. I always felt that was his issue with Vilardi and know how that ended? He learned he had to work hard and became a damn good player that I wish we still had, but I digress... Even though I prefer Todd, it's one more reason he has to go. It's sad, it's unfair, but at the end of the day, you can't fire the players, you can't undo the trade, but a change is needed. Feels like Terry Murray, where you don't want it to happen, but it needs to.

Unbelievable.

My family and I always get together on December 7th to honor my grandfather that died in Pearl Harbor. I was talking to my cousin, the hockey player, who currently lives in Hawaii and works as a scuba instructor, about the state of the Kings, and we both agreed we had 'the best team in the NHL'...

...if you would have told me the Kings would be one of the worst teams by mid-January, I would have called you a liar.

All I can think of is this song:

I don't see anywhere in the article where PLD takes ownership for playing poor and admits to the shortcomings he's had so far this season. Todd has his struggles as a coach, but, to me, the poor performance appears to squarely fall on PLDs shoulders.

Which mirrors his observed lack of "passion" or "performance" on the ice!

Exasperating....

I've had bad bosses and bad subordinates (lots of good ones too!) so it could be a Todd or PLD problem or both. In Todd's defense, he is saying the right things in terms of keeping it vague. He shouldn't come out in the press and name exactly what PLD is doing poorly and needs corrections. He's keeping things positive to the press and hopefully handling it behind closed doors, which IMO is the correct way.
I'm a little surprised that the PLD integration takes so long, twice. I mean Fiala was performing well within the first month. He brought speed and talent to the team and really helped unlock the PP because now we had 2 players (him and Kempe) who could have generate controlled zone entries regularly. It also feels like PLD is fitting in worse in January than he did in October.
Hopefully both parties can figure this out.

This kinda reminds me of Kovalchuk who could never integrate into the system and play Kings hockey.

In the thread started by Kingsjohn, mentioned after a somewhat good game that he was "on approach", however it appears that he is nowhere, and i mean nowhere near the runway!

Doesn’t that just sum up his entire career to date? Seems he’s always been ‘on approach’.. but you know what they say. Hope springs eternal..

Yeah agreed, I'm sure they are both part of the problem but ultimately it falls on PLD to produce regardless of what line he finds himself on. Maybe it's time to simplify his role and leave him at LW for awhile, but he looked horrible with Kopitar and Kempe last game.

Great callout regarding Fiala - I'm not sure Fiala has ever really fit in with the Kings, in terms of style and creativity, but he's consistently produced none the less and regardless of who he plays with.

Hopefully PLD figures it out and has a second half of the season like he did in 21/22.
