PLD Buyout

Joshua shooting percentage was over 21% this season and 15.5% last season. Whoever signs him should expect 12-15 goals a season under the very best of circumstances. Paying him $4M is asking for disappointment but I won’t be too shocked if some GM does it.

Also something to be mindful of is the salary cap could bump up to $92M next summer. That means this is the summer to buy low before inflation hits. Unfortunately due to poor cap management the Kings can’t even take advantage of locking in some lower cap hit free agent deals.
Would love it if he came in at 3-something but he’s having a great playoffs and this is exactly the kind of player who gets an inflated payday each year. That said, still just might be worth it as he addresses some serious needs on this roster.

Regardless of where he ends up lets keep tabs on his goals. He was on a 29 goal pace this regular season. So even when the PDO inevitably drops I still think he’ll get to at least 18 goals again. A breakout season like that changes your mindset and how coaches can use you.

Wow, we are going to be mediocre next year.
Mediocre being top third of league, which as an organization is not a space this team has historically played in. I'm not going to lie, there's a lot of fans that get more out of this organization for what they do on a random Wednesday in November and January than living only for hockey in May. I know that we all pie in the sky about cups, but if you're only here for summertime hockey.....

It's about the journey and the friends we make along the way.

This is basically it. Just think about what kind of pre-DL era mediocrity sparked that only proper rebuild in the franchise history...I'd be willing to bet a similar scenario can only happen if the Kings become a bottom 10 team for 5+ years in a row.

Basically, for those who want a proper rebuild Mclellan was simply too good. To get their wish, Desjardins should've stayed for 2 more seasons at least...

Those only teams from the 93 cup final run to DL's arrival that could even be closely called mediocre were the 98-02 teams, and like these past three seasons I enjoyed watching them too.

PLD is having himself a tournament so far. After 3 games he’s #2 in scoring for Team Canada with 2 goals 2 assists 4 points. I’ve only watched the highlights but from what I’ve seen he’s playing wing on a line with John Tavares.

I'd say top 40% rather than top third but your point is well taken. And I think AEG is definitely content with selling out Crypto and turning a profit.
The peak Kings teams (2012-14) were not competing against the league. They were only competing against themselves. If they played a good game then they were going to win an overwhelming majority of the time. Going into the playoffs, there was no hoping we'd get Vancouver instead of Edmonton. Instead the Kings just needed to play their game and they'd take care of business.
If I was only here for summertime hockey, I'd rather be a fan of Dallas, Colorado, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Edmonton, Vegas, Florida, Boston, Carolina, or NY Rangers. And it is a toss-up with Toronto, Tampa, NY Isles, Predators.
The mediocrity part is our best players are the same best players as 10-12 years ago. Kopi and Doughty still make this team go. Nobody has grabbed the torch from Kopi yet and nobody even seems poised to take the lead on the defense side.

While I kind of agree with the sentiment, it is different for me. If the team is mediocre it is what it is. If the team is mediocre due to waiting for players to mature, take the next step that is one thing. Serious career ending injuries happen to players, we know that all to well. In the above scenarios mediocrity would be accepted.

Problem for me is the fact that Management has leveraged the farm to be what they said is a contending team. Moves were made that many disliked, but the promises of not just getting to the 2nd round of the playoffs, but beyond were made.

Putting up with a mediocre team after all of managements failures is not something that I am happy about. We were supposed to take 1-2 steps forward, but it seems we have taken 1-2 steps back.

Heck, 3 years ago the Kings took Edmonton to game 7 and had a chance to win the series all the while missing key players. The next year a healthier team got booted in 6. This year, after the promise of "A CONTENDER" saw the Kings almost get swept. "F" that noise!!!!!!!

AEG (Danny B.) only care about profit. So long as the fans keep dumping their money on the mediocre Kings, they are fine with it. Luc & Rob know that Danny B. is on their side. Things are rosy for them so long as the books are in the black. AEG does not care what happens on the ice, that is secondary. Danny B. has EXACTLY who he wants in control of the Kings: YES men, and the good old boys country club. It's how he set up Galaxy, and how he set up the Kings. It's how he operates.

He puts guys in position that go along with profit first, winning secondary.
He gets guys who will tell fans year over year: "reject the evidence of your eyes and ears."

Meanwhile every now and then they will sign a "big name" player, who ultimately phones it in, and they end up having to buy them out. Galaxy did this over and over again, Kings are now embarking down this path as well.

When you have ONE guy running your teams, he will run them in the same manner.

Bootlicking fans are what they love, always coming up with excuses for a bad front office, and saying things like trust the process.

Credit to Galaxy fans, they finally revolted (boycott) and stopped giving AEG their money.
Danny B. caved and cleaned out the front office, (ate a brand new team president contract as well) and brought in top notch competent team management that can actually construct a team to win.

Unfortunately some Kings fans still think AEG runs the team the same way Tim Leiweke did.

But hey, another round of coach roulette, another change of team strategy (faster, younger, change formation, etc), look at the draft, make a couple of trades......rinse, wash, repeat.....meanwhile the same management who have mad poor decisions for a decade continue to run the team, with the same old "excuses and strategies". Its business as usual.

The writing was on the wall once Lombardi was fired and he wasn’t replaced. The title of President of Hockey Ops was just absorbed by Luc, President of Business Ops.

I don’t doubt anything you say about Danny B. And I don’t like Luc’s role at all. It gives me a lot of doubts for the future of this team.

However, Luc and Blake both want to win. They’re still competitors and neither have any interest in Dean being the only guy to bring the Cup to LA. They may not be good at this, but they want to win.

I think they want to "win" as well, but they know their marching orders are profit over winning, and they are cool with it.
They can rebuild, partial-rebuild, re-work, shuffle, all they want, for years. If the fans keep contributing their $$$, Danny B. will keep them in their roles.

I also believe when it comes to "winning" Luc & Rob are doing a poor job, but they know that Danny B. does not judge them on the winning portion of their job performance, they are judged by the profit portion of their job performance, and the fans are helping them out immensely in that department.

If the fans don't care, neither does AEG.

Just saw this too, looks like it's through 30-31 for Richards... contract termination not buyout as I assumed previously. "
When the Mike Richards settlement finally comes off of the Los Angeles Kings’ books, Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel will be 35-year-old seasoned veterans.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Kings will be paying Richards out until the end of the 2031-32 season. During that final season, Richards’ settlement will be at its lowest point with a payout of $400,000."

Are we done paying out the Mike Richards buyout yet?
It wasn't a buyout. The Kings canceled his contract. It's a very different circumstance that involves heavier penalties paid by the Kings.

That’s interesting. Cap Friendly shows 28-29 as the final year of the cap penalty.
