Seattle, by contrast, seems to be doing things the exact opposite (and more traditional) way of building slowly through the draft. I think in 3-4 years the Kraken are going to be giving the Kings more fits than the Golden Knights.

I don't think the Kraken appear to be building a damn thing, mind boggling what they've done.

They look good for a typical expansion team (Vegas excluded) and definitely have lucked into a couple good draft picks, but that said it's clear they are built around the draft/prospects which will take more than 3-4 years probably to see the benefit of.

To your point, though, their identify seems a bit murky so I wonder how clear of a vision they have for the organization.

They would probably like one more crack at a top two overall pick, what with the guys who are eligible for the upcoming draft. Otherwise I could have seen them overpaying for guys like Perron, Copp, Kadri, to instantly make their team much more competitive, and jumpstart the development of Beniers and Wright with some talented wingers.

Just think, if they had another bottom 3 or 4 finish and win the lottery, having Bedard to go along with Wright and Beniers down the middle? Woof..

Do any of you prospect experts have any hope for Andre Lee? He wasn't on my radar at all until Stoll mentioned him last week on the Kings Weekly season preview. I'm intrigued by his position (LW) and his size (giant).

Don’t get your hopes up. Another in a long line of oversized, under skilled players, a la Brian Boyle, Justin Auger, Dwight King, etc. Helenius might make a serviceable 3rd liner some day, but like the majority of players from our most recent draft.. just big bodies to fill out a smallish roster in the AHL, and possibly add some size to our 4th line internally

And here we are, 2 years later. How do people feel about the franchise outlook for the next 2-3 years?

We are now bound for 2-3 years of total mediocrity. Not going to compete for the SC, and not bad enough for top 5 picks with this group. That we didnt retain is amazing. Blake did well in that respect to recover from the terrible prior moves.

But, IMO, Blake should be looking to make moves and begin a full on rebuild, because this is simply not a core we can do much more with. Fiala, Moore, Gavrikov, Kempe are some outstanding trade pieces we can use for picks/prospects so in 3 years, when Doughty, Kuemper and Kopiter are off the books, we can be setup to bring in the pieces we'll need at that time to team up with a young and upcoming new core.

Hard to know without seeing the off-season moves.
There is a good core in place.
Kings need a big, tough lefty d-man not named Englund. Also need a second or third line forward, preferably a righty.
Goalie situation isn’t bad and probably good enough to contend.

I’ve felt the past couple years that the biggest issues have been leadership and competitive spirit. Doesn’t matter what roster Blake puts together without a team that competes at a high level and is willing to pay the price.
