They've got over 9 million in cap space. They could sign him to a longer deal, plenty of speculation out there for around a $6MM deal, more than a bridge.

It will be tight, that is for sure. Not sure what Blake plans to do with 10 defensemen on the roster. If you include signing Spence and Clarke makes the team.

Why on earth did Blake take on a 2.6mil contract for a 4th line winger and sign a 3rd paring horrible D to 3.8mil?

Seems Blake has himself a little bit of a mess again. We all know he has a lot of practice getting out of his self induced messes.

In 2009 he signed a 7 year 6.8mil contract. In 2016 he signed an 8 year 10mil contract.

In today's money that 6.8mil would be around 9.1 or 9.2mil. (guessed from data from hockeyzoneplus.com)

He'll be a UFA when this deal ends I believe. Kings get a good deal (assuming he continues to improve) and QB gets to leave as soon as possible if Blake remains GM.

It’s so crazy that Blake’s only real misstep this off-season has been the Edmundson deal and that contract is so bad that it feels like the off-season was just short of a disaster.
