***Seattle Kraken vs. LA Kings GDT 10/13/22 7:30pm on BSW***

I hate this team.

I hate hockey.

At least Kopi had those 2 great plays on the 5 on 3? And....I brought along a Kraken fan, so she had fun. So, probably all my fault.

sorry everyone probably lost the poll question, too. (except me...I guessed 27 SOG for us - dead on)

Literally nothing was working tonight. No cycle, no break outs, no possession, the passing was abysmal. The one goal was almost a PP fluke.

Did we officially change coaching systems too? What happened to the 1-3-1 that was so defensively effective last year?

We spent more time passing backwards in our own zone than forechecking both of these games.

This was painful to be at. Remember though, we had multiple games in a row in the first half of last season, where it didn't look like we couldn't beat a high school team.... like tonight. We started jelling the most after Doughty went down last season. So I just grit my teeth and tell myself it's simply coming right at the beginning of this season, and that we will work through it. On paper we are certainly not worse than last season, so I have to believe for awhile yet. Of course if we are 1-11 I will have to re-evaluate.

I somehow missed there was a game last night.
I saw these last few pages of comments first.
I haven't looked up the score yet,
I'm scared. Very scared.

Early season problems for sure. If they were playing anything remotely like a team and getting beat that’d be one thing, but so far they’re just completely disconnected. Can’t win when you can’t even pass.

Only way this team gets going if Kopi and Drew are no longer are here.

If the vets are going to play this poorly after the first 2 games of a season then Blake needs to put his foot down and tell McLellan to give the kids more ice time. They literally couldn’t do any worse. What’s the point in playing Kaliyev 11 minutes a night on the 4th line? Byfield 12 minutes a night on the 3rd line with primarily defensive zone starts?

Congratulations to the following posters who correctly guessed the Kings shots on goal of either 27 (dead on 2 points) or within +/-2, nobody predicted 18 saves or close. Special shoutout to notbob who would have nailed both, but reversed his guesses:

27 shots (2 points):
Nyssa42

25-29 shots (1 point):
VegasHockey
Rusty
beady eye
beedee
salami
RoS
Liz4LA
Bill Hicks

Listened to this on radio only and even Nick and Daryl were frustrated by the end. Not a great start to the season. Maybe it's not a good thing that Clarke looks this good with our D core?

Again, completely disconnected, not playing as a unit. Everyone making awful choices! The no-look drop pass bs stopped for the most part, but seeing Anderson try to throw the puck left to right off of his forehand right in front of our blueline, wtf? Our 1st line didn't really show up, an Fiala was a ghost until he got dropped to line 2. Not good enough.

I still don't get Grundi on line 2 instead of Kalyev or Vilardi to start?

Whatever it is they are trying to achieve with this defensive zone break-out system, well, it isn't working. Unless slowing the game down to a crawl is the goal. In which case, mission accomplished! They've effectively eliminated any chance of an offensive rush.

Sleeping on it I’m remembering that Vegas and Seattle also came to play. Vegas was clicking and holy cow were they shooting. Seattle smothered the neutral zone, hit like mfs and kept Kings on the outside in their own zone. Contrast that with a Kings team that’s playing like they’ve never met each other before and this is what you get.

Every new season teams are gelling at various levels and there’s a lot of luck in who you happen to catch early. COL started last season 1-3 and then went 4-6 in their first 10. Maybe see if MIN or someone else coming up isn’t up to speed yet and Kings luck into a mediocre win until they remember how to play hockey.

Krackers brung it, outskated, outplayed what appears to be a team still in preseason training. It's only 2 games, but the Krackers appear to be seriously improved. Except for Gibson they would have swept SOCAL. Kings OTOH should rethink the 1st PP components, notably Doughty and Kopitar, and give more ice time to 3rd/4th lines.

Ya. he was great on the PK. Clarke looked good too.

Not a good start to the season at all. The Kings are just too slow. The game is being played at ahigh speed. The teams that are winning have a lot of speed. One of the reasons the Kings are taking a lot of penalties is because they are slow which causes them to be a step behind. It doesn't look like it will be a good season for the Kings. I know it is early and i hope i am wrong. But bad starts usually lead to bad season and not making the playoffs.

There are two large high resolution 'data' boards at one end of the arena (opposite the Kings' banners, next to the Lakers and Sparks banners). They show videos and real time statistical data. I like the Shift time information, which shows how long each skater has been on the ice during the current shift. If the player is on the ice for more than 30 seconds the number turns orange. If they're out there for more than one minute it goes red.

Making the playoffs last season, might have been a bad thing. They overachieved last season being shorthanded. This year with everyone here, they are slow methodical and predictable. No urgency and bringing in a proven scorer has them watching the play. On that note, that first line is pathetic at this point. I would like to see better conditioning out of training camp as well, if you can't keep up get off the ice.

If Todd doesn't get this team playing much better he will be looking for a job elsewhere. DD has taken a really bad step down he isn't doing anything. Fiala is too fast for Kopitar. Kempe can hang with him but so far Fiala is like ghost on the ice. The only line that is doing something is the Vilardi line.
