The @LAKings have loaned defenseman Jordan Spence to the @ontarioreign

Let the speculation begin...trade incoming? Just a move to get him playing time?

Feels like the Kings have made their decision that Clarke is the guy right now between the two of them.

I feel it's more of a move to get him some games in.
This ^^^^^^^ Clarke needs NHL experience and Spence needs to play. The question is, why the push to get Clarke NHL experience now when they were going back and forth with Spence. Other than, Clarke maybe needed more D work for the NHL than they expected.

They're not playing Clarke because he needs experience, they're playing Clarke because they think he gives them a better chance to win games.

At this point, I don't believe Spence would get you much on a trade. I like Spence, however, they obviously need to get Clarke more playing time against NHL caliber players. Clarke is going to make a lot of mistakes; however, he will learn. I would like for him to lift a few weights in the offseason.

I think he would be part of a package if anything.

Clarke is the d man the Kings need right now. He’s an adventure in his own end but his ability to generate offense is worth the risks he takes on defense.

I’m personally still high on Spence. He’s got to work on getting his shot on net and of course he needs to get stronger but I think he’s just about the ideal 3rd pairing right side d man for this team in the short and long term.

The reported asking price for rental Sean Walker is a first round pick. Spence would bring back something very good, especially if packaged.
Pretty disappointing that we had to sell low on Walker. We saw it first hand, the guy is a very solid d man. Too bad he got hurt and never really regained his form here.

Yes, and no. IMO, they were thinking of playing both Spence and Clarke in a rotation. They realized that Clarke needed work in the D zone and on coverage. They want to accelerate that, possibly for the deadline, but also for the playoffs. Don't you think the Kings were lucky that Talbot was on fire last night. How many BJ's skated right down the slot by Clarke and Gavi last night?

Also, last night while trying to cover someone in front of the net, Clarke went tried to go around the net to get position and front the BJ player on the other side of the crease. He could have just pushed the guy out of the way. While going around the back of the net he was in no mans land and was lucky the puck did not make its way to the front of the net while he was there.

Yes, Clarke is our most gifted offensive player on the backend. However, he is a -5 in 10 games and Spence is a +5 in 40ish games. Spence always plays with Englund, while Clarke has played about 50/50 with Englund and Gavi. Clarke has to be strong on both sides of the puck in order to help the Kings win, again IMO.

He'll be back to playing with Englund as soon as Blake trades Roy... he said hopefully.
For me the only way we trade Roy is for a LHD replacement for Englund. We cannot make a big hole on D without trying to fill it with a LHD with a little term.

Roy could command a big price in return. Right shot, defensive defensemen are a very hot commodity. It's something that has to be considered if Arvidsson is not seriously injured. Sure looks as though the Kings will have to decide between keeping Roy or Arvy next season at some point. I won't try to predict what Blake is going to do or when. But Roy is his most valuable asset going into March 8.

Yes, he could command a big price but only to playoff caliber teams. Which one has a spare equivalent roster player to give up?

Who is a better third pairing, LD in the league that only counts $1M against that cap?
I think it would be difficult to find one of those. Not sure why you ask that as I did not suggest that the Kings do that. I am sure that you understand that if Roy is traded, it opens up cap space for said LHD?

Just discussing this if they trade Roy. I am not saying they should, but if they did it could potentially allow the kinds to improve the left side.

Roy could be moved east for a good haul in draft pics. Those pics+ could be used to get an upgraded LHD with a little term.
