Spence loaned to Ontario

I think it would be difficult to find one of those. Not sure why you ask that as I did not suggest that the Kings do that. I am sure that you understand that if Roy is traded, it opens up cap space for said LHD?

Just discussing this if they trade Roy. I am not saying they should, but if they did it could potentially allow the kinds to improve the left side.
My point is that IF they trade Roy (And I don’t think they will barring a complete collapse over the next 2 weeks) it’s probably to shore up the goaltending position and 3rd/4th line because Arvy won’t be back before the playoffs, and they will roll the dice on the backend with what we have.

England is serviceable on the 3rd pairing to kill penalties and play 10-12 minutes a night.

I see your point. Those are areas of need. However moving Roy creates a hole, or need on the backend. So, if Roy is moved we need to add another D to the list of needs.

I think it boils down to how we see Englund. I think he has been good overall. Actually impressed with him. I just fear that in a 7 game series he is going to struggle against teams like the Oilers, Avs, and Stars. In most games he is fine, but against some teams I think his weakness (mobility and quickness) gets exposed.

I don’t agree that it creates a hole. It absolutely creates a defensive deficiency.

Yep, Englund, Clarke, and to a lesser degree, Spence will all struggle come playoff time against a team like Edmonton. That leaves us rotating 3 defensemen for the large majority of the game which we know isn't a path to success.

Given that, Blake would be silly to trade Roy (and silly not to resign him). Also, I wouldn't be suprised to see him pick up a low cost vet D at the deadline.

Blake can’t trade Roy because the team is in win now mode. When he’s on top of his game he brings elements that nobody else on the roster can from the right side. Removing that skill set makes the Kings thinner on the blue line and puts them on a razors edge re: injuries.

I’d love to see Clarke take over the 2nd pair minutes next to Gavrikov but I can’t imagine Blake taking on that risk just to secure some future assets for Roy.

It'll be very tough to re-sign Roy. I don't think the Kings have the cap room. They may have to go with either Clarke or Spence as RD2
