You could probably fill out a better than average defense with the guys the Kings have let walk rather than trade and the guys who we have sold for less than market value to dump Petersen's salary and open up the cap space for PLD. Walker, Durzi, Roy, Spence, probably Gavi. Maybe Englund to get to 6 guys...

If Gavi isn’t signed as of right now this trade just went from awful to insane. I am guessing it is currently insane.

Hiller’s mismanagement of the asset devalued him in my eyes. Hoping Marner really wants to play for Hiller because at this point it’s the only logical reason I can see keeping him on for now.

Friedman mentioned the cap space the Kings would be getting as a result of the trade. If you assume Spence was destined to be the 7th d-man, having Moverare fill that role instead saves $725,000.

I don't see any value moving these d man. Durzi too.

Durzi had skill, but he was a buffoon. He literally stopped playing so he could complain about a delayed penalty, while Conor McDavid had the puck in front of the net, in an elimination game. If the goal is to win, you can’t have that guy on your team. Loved his skill but hated his lack of maturity. I was glad to see him go.

Spence, on the other hand, was an exceptional skater and high-skill defender. He was occasionally outmuscled, but he was intelligent and made impact plays on occasion. I always felt he was reliable and could obviously contribute offensively. Put him on a good team and he’s going to be incredible.

I don’t think we needed to dump him, even with Clarke. The Kings still aren’t going to do anything against Edmonton, so why not keep him in the lineup and let him develop? Use him at the trade dealing we’re not doing well?

Oh well, wish him the best in Ottawa. That’s an up and coming team and he should receive abundant PP time.
