Superman v Batman/DC movies

Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr are in the same category for me. Extremely talented and likable actors who have grown addicted to the paycheck.

I dunno...thats a bit harsh. Actors have to strike while the iron is hot. I think both of them take some jobs to pay the bills for some of the movies that they WANT to do. Until their names alone aren't enough to get a movie greenlit, every director/producer is going to want to use them to get their movies made. I think Depp was part of the impetus for Lone Ranger...he wanted to play the part and is working with Verbinski who he clearly enjoys working with. RDJ...well, part of me still thinks that he works to keep himself out of trouble. It's hard to begrudge either of them. They have earned the right to make 'paycheck' movies if they want to.

In RDJ's case, it would seem that he's only WANTED to do Tony Stark and Sherlock movies in the last five years.

Superman just isn't a compelling hero. He's virtually invincible. Personally, I thought Man of Steel did a really solid job creating a fun, forgettable action movie out of the source material at hand.

My dislikes are pretty well documented in this thread, so I won't re-hash them.

Likes:

- No kryptonite
- No wasted time with Superman "training" or fighting common street thugs / stopping bank robberies
- Actors and actresses in their roles
- Believable bad guys; the fact that they come from Krypton means they share Superman's stupid "God-mode" here on Earth.

On that last point... I thought to myself when he killed Zod "congratulations, you just killed the last being in the universe that could match you in battle".

Where does the "franchise" go from here? I have no interest in seeing Superman fight mortal men. More aliens?

My other question... weren't we all talking in this thread about how this movie would explore the morality of Superman and his powers, and what he should and shouldn't do to shape the world? That sounded interesting, what happened to that?

Lots of people saying that the next one should have millionaire Lex Luthor(judging by the LexCorp logos easter egged in MoS) step in and offer to pay for the damage that this 'menace from another planet' has caused. It's a good start but where do you go from there? At this point it's too early to go Doomsday...maybe you bring in Brainiac and contrive some way for Luthor to use Brainiac as the hammer...me want Bizaaro.

I think if you do Lex, you'll need another bad guy for sure, to fulfill the action quota. Depending on the timing of the sequel and the Justice League movie, maybe it can be Mongul working for Darkseid behind the scenes. Or if it's after the JL movie, maybe it can be Parasite or Brainiac being directed behind the scenes by Luthor. I'd like to see them develop Luthor as a bad guy over time.

I'm sure something probably escaped from the Phantom Zone when the portal was opened. So any villains in the comic books hail from the Phantom Zone?

I recall others being imprisoned there at some point. White Martians and various other naughty Kryptonians at various points in time.

Not sure where this should go, but figured that this was as good as any....

....until jd makes and "All things Justice League" thread in the next six months. :P

Batman Vs Superman Movie - 6 Actors Reportedly Shortlisted For Batman Role

Some interesting choices/ideas.

Already posted in the Comic Books thread, I am all for Brolin. NO GOSLING. Batman DOES NOT SMIRK damnit. Batman has no sense of ironic hipster douchebaggery. And most importantly, if Batman were to look in the mirror and see Ryan Gosling he would fight himself.
Actually Manginello was a hair away from being Superman, so it would be a nice coincedince if he gets the part.

Man of Steel

If the True Blood guy gets the role, I quite.

Brolin would be fine and kind of funny since I've always believed that Christian Bale looks like a young James Brolin. Just watch Amityville Horror. Practically dopplegangers.

And I'll say no to Gosling as well. I'm honestly not as impressed with his acting as everyone else. He plays one note in everything I've see him in.

That's true. Haha.
