Tales from the beer league part 2

got my first shutout tonight, 9-0! too bad Peggy_GKG was too busy watching muscular men in tight pants rubbing up against each other and tackling instead of being a part of the epicness! ;)

Hey I had a great time but I'm definitely bummed about missing this game. And of course they have me as playing yesterday on Pointstreak so now my PPG average is going to drop! I wonder if the Avalanche are going to try and get some help. Wouldn't surprise me if a "trade" in the league is made in the next few weeks.

Congrats on the Shutout! Were you putting out a hit on anyone who said the words during the game?

thanks man! well, i was certainly hoping no one on the bench was saying the magical word! the third period actually got a bit sloppy too, but it all worked out!

now that my games are on friday nights instead of wednesdays, it feels like i gotta wait so damn long to get some action!

PS - we won the opener last week!

My old off night used to be friday nights. It was the worst for parking in downtown Oakland, give me wednesday any time. Gratz on the win though!

So did the b2b with both my games this last weekend. Nothing out of the norm other than the lower team is starting to get it together a little better and my upper team is still shocking the league with its undefeatedness. Still tired from the games on sunday, this getting old stuff is really starting to catch up with me.

No beer league for me yet, but I finally recovered enough from the concussion I got back in April to able to get back on skates last week. Completely lost all my stamina and just puttered around the rink for 20 minutes before I had to pack it in, but I still skated again and it was glorious!

we lost 7-4 tonight. i gave up two crappy 5-hole goals and then a really bad one that deflected off a chics skate about 10 feet in front of me, redirected my way, off my skate and in. it was one of those blooper type of goals you would see on a Top 10 Crappy Goals compilation.

Our defense sucks, I have given up on trying to help them after doing so all last season. Im convinced they just dont get it. One out of the 5 we have is what I would consider strong.

Wow, I can't believe they didn't just flat out cancel your game man, that is asking for serious health concerns by allowing you guys to even attempt to play in that heat.

Wow that sucks 111 heat? crazy.

Groin issues have struck again. Felt like a one legged man from the 2nd period on. Didn't help we had 9 guys and skated 3 D but we deservedly lost 9-1. About the only excuse I can offer up is it should have been 5-1 ish but their goalie was really decent and our goalie took a shot off the mask and quite frankly didn't look right on some of the shots after that.

Time for more stretching.....

Yeah and the big mouths on the team kept barking out **** like "fight for that puck" and i'm like, "f u guys, i'm about to die"

tonight i subbed again in bronze east at lakewood for the same team that i subbed for a month back. it is 2.5 levels higher than my current league and is so much fun! we were up 3-0 after the first, then i gave one up in the second on a partial breakaway, the guy had dirty dangles! third period our team got sloppy and i gave up two goals, yikes. one was a total fluke from almost along the boards that looked like it was going wide glove side but i swear it bent and squeezed in about 6" of gap between my left pad and the post!

this led to a shootout. their first guy muffed the puck and didnt get a shot off. our first guy shot it wide. their next guy was dr. dangles (same guy that beat me in the 2nd) and can-openered me, beat me 5 hole. our next two guys scored and then i stuffed their 3rd guy for the win!

i subbed in Copper last night and got the win, 3-2. i wasnt able to play in our game today but heard we lost 4-3.

Finally back on the ice yesterday after over a month layoff! Unfortunately, we lost the game. Grr.

subbed last night in copper and had my 4-0 shutout spoiled with 45 seconds left in the game! :(

the team did ask me to play fulltime with them. :)

Our rookie team won in a shootout last night 4-3 (we beat the team 9-0 last time). Kudos to Peggy_GKG for stepping up and trying defense for the first time in a game situation. Overall, the game was atrocious, I know Ii should be happy we won, but the overall play left a bad taste with me. They brought in a ringer who was pretty good, dangled our team multiple times throughout the game and top shelved a beaut backhand over my shoulder on my blocker side, i thought i had played it perfectly. Someone on our team tripped someone from behind in the first period on a play that wasn't even remotely a breakaway and they were awarded a penalty shot...in which I stuffed. Also ended up stuffing all three of their shooters in the shootout and thank the lord someone on our team actually scored during the 3rd round of it.

Myself, our coach and captain seriously believe the team is regressing...it is sad. It is frustrating telling returning players the same thing multiple times a game that i told them multiple times a game all last season, simple stuff too. Such as, here is where you line up for a face-off. Take a look before sending a blind backhand pass across the middle from our own corner, keep your stick on the ice, keep two hands on your stick and last but not least, skate hard.

Oh well.

Bummer about the ringer business beedee. Happens all the time though.

Had the weirdest first period last night. Other team started the gsme with no goalie, one of our players showed up late, missing his gloves. Then he and another player had to leave the game and get shoulder pads, they had to stop the game mid play because the league got a call from another players wife that she was in labor and finally their goalie showed up. All that happened in i think the first 7 minutes of gametime. Game was pretty good after that, 1-1 tie but a lot of flow and good passing combined with good sticks. Led to lots of neutral zone transition.
