Tales from the beer league part 2

I missed my last two games because I was sick, but finally got back on the ice yesterday.

After being down 1 or 2 goals for the entire game, we rallied in the 3rd to tie the game 3-3 only to lose in the ensuing shootout. This marks our second overtime loss this season giving us a 2-0-2 record so far.

Overall, I felt like I played like crap. Still being on the tail end of the cold that won't go away, I had no lungs and no legs. I felt like I was constantly out of position and nothing but a liability when I was out on the ice. On the upside though, they recorded an assist for me, even though I don't remember touching the puck at all before the goal in question. At least it made up for the actual assist they didn't give me in game one when we were still waiting for our team jerseys with numbers to be ready.
I thought you played great man! I think they gave you an apple on mine? Playing at 10am super bowl sunday was just tough man. So proud of the teams character to come from behind to get the point! Can't wait til sunday!!!

Thanks, man. I felt like I was always behind the play and giving away the puck almost as soon as it hit my stick. Maybe it wasn't as bad as it seemed in my head.

Pretty sure I was on the bench when you tied it up. Cody got credit for the assist on your goal. The assist they gave me was on Aaron's goal which I was on the ice for, but I don't think I touched the puck.

Unfortunately, I'm out this coming Sunday. Going to Dallas to visit my lady friend. bananadan:

We won our game tonight, 2-1. It was scoreless til the third period. Both teams had a few golden opportunities during the first two periods but failed to put the bisquit in the basket.
eddieshack23 does Tim play forward? I might see if he wants to switch with me. I dont want to break up you and Glen up front, at the same time I am not really finding any magic with you know who up front with me.

Sunday night we had a sub goalie that I'd recognized from my higher level games. Good part was he was telling the guys in the room he'd been playing higher levels so they were getting their confidence up. Bad part is I'd played against him and lit him up a bunch of times before. Kinda sucks playing when you know your goalie is a bit of a headcase, sure enough as soon as that first one went in he totally lost all his confidence. I spent the rest of the night trying to prevent shots instead of just forcing bad angles cuz the keeper was directing them in. I'd warned the rest of my D mates about him but after he'd left the locker room some of the forwards started with the what the hell man I thought he was gonna be good stuff. To his credit there were 2 legit snipes he had no hope on, but 4 others were the kind where everyone just kinda skates away quickly. Anyway point it that I'd forgotten what it was like to have a bad goalie when you're playing D.

He does. Hit him up, he should go for it. I was looking for you to make that move again, you had it set up a couple of times.

Thanks man! I pretty much gave up on receiving any sort of quality pass from him so I started to try to make stuff happen on my own (not the best "team" thing to do, but it was all I felt I could really do at that point). It felt like almost every time there was a breakout and he had the puck I would head down rink to open space only to see the puck was stolen or coughed up.

Like you said I did have a couple opportunities to make that inside/out move but I got stuffed on two of the 3 I tried. I did have one semi coast-to-coast where I was able to dangle one or two guys then get a snapper off, but the goalie ate the shot and no rebound was given up. Then there was that one when I was behind the goal line and stepped up and out and tried to bank a backhander off the inside of his left leg, it worked, but then he squeezed the pads and it was stopped about 4" from the goal line. :(

Enough about me though, we still managed to get the W!

I'm in physical therapy now so I can get back on the rink. It shouldn't be more than 4-5 more weeks before I'm playing again.

Our division finally grew from two to four teams. One of the new teams was bumped down after getting destroyed in the division above us. The other team was cobbled together from people who attend the skills and drills class. We played the skills and drills team last night, and won 7-0.

Props to P. Diddy who busted out a hat trick!

Was Goldberg in net? :rimshot:

We got waxed last night by a clearly superior team, 8-1 I think? They actually played as a team and moved the puck like crazy, the time of possession was insanely lopsided, as it felt like we where shorthanded all night. They passed well, they moved well, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous.

I finally got to play a bit up front with eddieshack23 but it was tough to get anything going for us. Our team has a couple players on it that are guaranteed to dish anywhere between 3-7 no-look, backhanded passes either up the middle in our zone, or just anywhere. Each week it is the same thing, I will skate to an open area to give that person with the puck a lane to pass to and it never fails, they don't look where they are passing and just fling it forward, usually to an opposing player.

I know it is just Monday night roller hockey, but that ish is growing more and more frustrating. :(

That was the team I mentioned earlier. I've played with and against some of them for years.

The guys that are a problem, we know who they are. Hopefully we will come up with a solution next season .

Ahh, I had a feeling that team might have been the one you mentioned. Just imagine if they had that one guy that wasn't there last night!
Regarding the problem guys, I don't want to be a dick and be "that guy" that gives pointers or what not during a game, but maybe a general statement in between periods can be said? I dunno. I know Brucey mentioned it to one of them after the game.

On a side note, did any of you guys every play street hockey with the orange mylec ball? I loved that thing, it felt more fluid to me than a roller hockey puck does on sport court.

That's all I played with during my first go around with roller hockey back in the early 90's. Now, I'm used to the slowness of the roller puck and am having such a hard time controlling the puck on ice.

Woo the orange ball! Used it in jr. high intermurals. Damn hope my school still does those because my stepdaughter is in jr high now with my same teacher.

This speaks volumes! That is the thing I think I can't stand about the current state of indoor roller hockey (and some outdoor rinks too), is the use of the roller hockey puck. There is too much friction, the puck is too light and it all just feels way too unnatural to me. The ball had a nice weight to it, it rolled smoothly and it just added a nice overall fluidness to the game being played. Part of my overall distaste for roller hockey is how flat out awkward the game feels to me. Constantly having to push the puck along the way instead of having it just move along easily with you (as the ball did, and as a puck does on ice) sucks.
