So fitting that the G’s lose Campeones Cup on the same damn play that they cannot defend against for years now.

Corners, set pieces, crosses into the box.

It’s never been fixed/addressed.
Vanney ….so very Vanney.
Frustrating to say the least that this guy can’t solve this.
Come on that was almost comical

For reference on supposed world cup pricing:

After last nights match performance, Haji Wright certainly earned a spot on the first team. He was a dangerous menace.

W D W is not bad in the last three.

Is there more hope now?

I actually think Roldan may have earned a spot too (even if he's seattle s**m :) )

...and the G's season of horror is over.

Outside of the typical year over year issues: poor/laughable at times defending, poor/laughable at times defending on set pieces, build-up to the final third and then not be dangerous at all..........

Why was the second half of the season much better than the first half?
All the players were in camp. Sure there were some injuries at the beginning too....but how did the G's end up on that epic winless streak at the beginning of the season, only to play much better ball in the 2nd half of the season?

Are the fans to believe that these players were learning the same old Vanney system anew on the fly for the first half of the season? Vanney played the same system over and over again....never changed it. It took the small handful of new players half the season to figure it out?!?!?!?!?

One of my (partial) theory is poor roster management by Vanney: There are a few players that were brought in that Vanney tried over and over again to fit "square pegs into round holes" that just killed this team: Ramirez, Sanabria, Nascimento, Zanka, and the early goalkeeper rotations (4 keepers...lolz).

He kept playing these players (clearly poor acquisitions) over and over again with the same poor results.
Why? It took half the season before he changed up the roster and then we started to see these guys ride the pine.

Was it Kuntz and the FO "forcing" their newly resigned manager to play these clowns?
Was it Vanney who could not figure out for half the season just how bad some of these players were?

It does not make sense.
Yes Puig is a big/massive piece, and yes, Delgado and Dejan are big as well, but there clearly were "serviceable" alternatives to fill in for theses players on the roster that could have made the G's a 7-9 place playoff club.

The cratering on the first half of this season will need to be looked at in fine detail this offseason by both the FO, the manager, and the fans at large.

So far I cannot find a valid excuse for it.

But I got to see Nascimento score in person!!

We're watching the game Saturday and thinking this is the 4th best team in the west? Or, where the heck has this team been all year.

So what to do with Reus and Zanka who I think eat up quite a bit of money. Reus just seems to be a super sub now until he inevitably gets hurt again. But he seems to be a leader in locker room and can direct guys as needed which is a plus. Zanka I don't even care - can say goodbye. But we need serious upgrades on defense.

I'm not sure Yoshida can sustain another full season, but I think he's signed through next year.

Reus I am good with. I think he has one more year, and supersub will be good for when Puig is back and starting.

Zanka has to be bought out. Plain and simple. Absolute bust.
(Then again Anderlecht fans were screaming about how bad he was, .....but you know, the FO did their homework....right?)

Sanabria is the one that worries me.
G's paid $5 mill. for him. He takes up a U22 spot.
G's signed him for 5 years!!!
Then they shoe-horn the guy into an 8 spot when he clearly is a 6, and plays like a 6.
He has shown little if anything this past season, and sat out a ton of the second half of the season.

IMHO....G's need:

- A young(er) and tall dominant CB (pair with Garces)
- A true 8 for the midfield
- A legitimate starting striker (return Nasci....he's not it)
The spine of this team is busted. Work on it.
