Interesting. Clearly he would take a DP spot, and Puig would be listed as season ending injury to make it happen.

His stats:

2023 19 appearances 10 goals
2024 27 appearances 5 goals

Quite the drop off of form for a player that is only 28, going on 29 years old this year.

However SLC was a disaster last year, so perhaps a change of scenery and system will turn him around.

Kuntz off season theme for this year: Make moves within MLS.

Interesting about his contract expiring after this season.

Tinfoil hat theory incoming:
Kuntz found a magical short term DP.
Allows for flexibility at the DP spot for next season assuming Puig comes back.

Reality:
Galaxy to make the deal shake hands with Klauss on a upcoming 3 year extension.
Klauss has another 5 goal season. G's fans are happy he will be gone at the end of the season making way for Puig in the DP spot, and the G's to go search for a TAM striker.......only to have the rug pulled out from under the fans when the fans learn in mid December that Klauss is signed for 3 more years, and that the contract was signed quietly behind the scenes over the summer....because it was a handshake deal.

you beat me to it. I like the idea that deal expires at end of year, if he sucks we don't have to re-sign him. If he's great maybe work out an extension. I haven't gone scorched earth like your theory but wouldnt surprise me

LOL @ scorched earth....

Hey, bad contracts are the Galaxy way!!!

On a serious note, it appears StLC fans are pretty bummed about Klauss leaving, and say he is better than his stats show. They say he gives 100% every match (then again so did Miguel Berry). But seriously, they say he is a target striker, good with hold up play and passing as well. Most say not quite DP caliber, but definitely TAM for sure. A bubble DP or TAM guy. TAM for a team like Galaxy, DP for a team like the Quakes.

...and there you have it!
By summer he could be moved to a TAM contract, then the G's can get a DP #10 during the summer transfer window.

Wow! Sad.

Silver linings.....If he ruptured it in December.......imagine if he ruptured it in preseason training, or sometime in April early in the season.

I bet rehab this time around is going to be done with a "fine tooth comb" if you will.
How he was able to rupture it one year out from surgery is crazy!

I want someone who gives 100% and actually contributes. Is that too much to ask? Maybe not quite DP caliber but certainly seems enough to holdover until we decide what to do going into 2027.

If he can be a good target where Paintsil and Pec don't have to do EVERYTHING, it's a plus.

Yea for sure....especially for Pec.

When that dude feels like he has to do everything on the pitch he becomes horrible!
Pec really needs somebody more creative on the pitch to work with him from striker to attacking mid.

I really want to see a bounce back year for Pec.
However I'm not sure Klauss and last year's midfield is the answer.

G's up?
