The Avengers/Marvel movies

So we might get a decent Fantastic Four movie yet? ;)

I snucked (theater hopped) into Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer because I like the Surfer, and I still felt ripped off, haha.

It was a sad day.

Eagle-Eyed Marvel Fans Believe The Super Bowl’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Trailer Spoiled A Major Surprise

You guys do know Black Panther is out, right? Let's keep it spoiler free till next weekend. Going to see it today, you know I will have an opinion.

Ok. This is going to p*ss off a lot of people...

Nah, I actually really liked it. Very cohesive with real life issues(only rarely heavy handed). No widget to chase, no gratuitous in-movie previews for future movies...an, FOR ONCE...a foreign culture is represented by their natural language and dialects. No standard issue regal British accents here. I agree that Killmonger is a valid villain(although antagonist is a little more fitting). He is a little one-note...could have used a more nuanced performance, that Jordan is more than capable of.

Right? I would like to see what part of the rule book mandates that all foreign or ancient peoples in English language movies have to speak in that posh British.

They have been some exceptions though, haha. Harvey Keitel played Judas in that Scorsese movie speaking like some random dude one finds in a Brooklyn deli. Maybe, they should've dubbed a Regal British accent for him after all, lol. :P

Another solid Marvel entry. The story was tight, and while Chadwick Boseman was good, I don't know whether the rest of the ensemble or the production design stole more of the show.

I will say, it's been a very good development to be able to introduce new headline characters into the existing MCU framework before their solo films. I saw both "Black Panther" and "Spiderman: Homecoming" this weekend and it was nice to be able to skip the "origin" stories and just pick up on the move, as it were. Assuming Captain Marvel is gonna be in "Infinity War," it may help her solo film hit the ground running.

And, dammit, Michael B. Jordan is one good-lookin' mofo, particularly with that side flick hair deal he had going on. There was one woman in the theater who got excited and made some kind of exasperated noise every time he came on screen and I was, like, "I see where you're comin' from, lady. Right on."

My guess is there was a lot of Killmonger development left in the cutting room. His character's goal was so sympathetic that it may have presented some balancing issues with T'Challa as the hero. There was enough there to "get it" without it overwhelming the heroic intent, which it was always threatening to do.

The only reason why he was "the villain" was the indiscriminate killing, but aside from that the plot is essentially two equally valid approaches to a complex issue.

It's not all that different than the Vanko stuff in Iron Man 2, except Rourke was super pissed because his sympathetic scenes were all cut in favor of a more stereotypical bad guy.

Amen to this, and they all pulled it off. It actually took me awhile to realize that was Michonne because the accent took me away. It didn't click until there was a shot of her walking from behind, where you could see how muscular her back and shoulders were. That I recognized, and then I wanted to slap myself in the face for being so slow.

A) They did a great job of explaining the origin without drawing it out and boring us before diving into the story. I hope this sets the standard for future stand alones.
B) Truth, and casting Jordan as an antagonist is no bueno. He was fine, but because he's so freaking fine, it was hard to not be on his side. During the fights I couldn't help but feel like, "Don't hit him in the face!"

I have an attention problem and usually get lost having to remember interplanetary stuff, so I was very happy when they said Wakanda was in Africa instead of on another planet. Add the quick, simple origin explanation, and I was able to follow this movie completely. I didn't have any questions at the end, which is a rarity. You didn't even need to know anything about the Marvel Universe or other Marvel characters, so bravo! I also liked the Oakland wrap around, and think that really works to make it relatable. This is an excellent movie.
