The Avengers/Marvel movies

Never understood the griping about the lack of individuality between the Marvel projects. They are clearly set up to be merely individual episodes of the widest reaching arc in film history, if you don't count the -Up documentary series. Nothing has ever been done at this scale, and they should have a continuity in tone. With the exception of the Iron Man 3 Shane Black misstep, they have all been thouroughly enjoyable films from start to finish.

really? really??? Age of Ultron. You are gonna defend that pile of boredom. These movies are prefabricated to the utmost. Movies that are generated to sell more movies. And you dare to question my taste ?!?!?!?! You are being spoonfed advertisements that seem to be more important at times than the movie they appear in. And you question my taste????? How dare you sir? And this 'film' threatens to be in the Michael Bay Transformers style where it's as if an autistic child is slamming two sets of ill matched action figures into each other for two plus hours. Not to mention, and not that there is anything wrong with it, but there is a none too subtle manlove flavor to the whole thing. Let's face it...this isn't about any accords...this is because Cap chose Bucky over Iron Man. All that flirting...unrequieted. OWN IT!!!!!! Hell hath no fury like a narcissistic millionaire in armor. And gee...Marvel's brain trust got together and said...hey we have a villain problem. Let's solve it by having the heroes fight each other. Meh. And Double Meh. This isn't a movie. It's an algorithm.


You know...just because I don't think Wild Wild West is a horrible movie...you paint me with a broad brush.
Frankly...I expected more from you.

And I do enjoy the dynamic that it is coming from within the heroes this time, and not just another stop gap betwixt the good guys and the Villain-of-the-Month. I wonder if, given the Sony deal with Spider-man, they also have access to Norman Osborn? There is clearly a Thunderbolts possibility brewing as well, but with the schedules pretty much announced for the next decade they don't have much leeway.

Ok, so I get it now. You are in denial. How are they going to handle Zemo? He's going to have NO resemblance to the comic book character and get some off stage death like Strucker did. Remember him? That's ok...cause they did NOTHING with him. And, from what I have read, Crossbones had basically a week on set. So yeah...don't expect much there. But they can sell toys that way. You betcha. I'll admit...I will probably see this...think it was better than I expected...and completely forget about it. Like Ultron. Like AntMan. The first Cap'n movie is still the best. Raiders with a dash of real comic book movie.
 
Regarding Ultron, yeah, there were a lot of problems there. But I put those all sqauarely at the feet of Whedon, not Marvel. I would like to see an entirely different cut of that film, but that being said, I find that movie much more now enjoyable as I watch it at home. The theater viewing was disappointing as I had a very difficult time getting over Whedon's wussification of the Captain America character, the dreadful Thor hot tub sequence, and the overly long final battle. I do find enough in the rest of Ultron to even put it ahead of the "guilty pleasure" classification. Not their best effort, but "acceptable".

And trust me, I have no problem getting all high and mighty about corporate interference in cinema, but I simply don't find it to be the case here. I really do enjoy the tone, the characters and quality of the MCU. I can't say the same about any of the X-men franchise, the various Spidermen, or any single DC offering. The MCU movies are just at a higher level, and I hope they maintain this continuity above letting individual directors getting a shot at making more artistic versions of frankly limited source material. Iron Man 3 was so "directed" that it really shouldn't even be considered part of this continuity, and I would be perfectly content if they didn't allow the possibility of another misstep like that by giving up too much directorial freedom in the future.

I would be extraordinaily happy with more of The Same with these movies.

I am sure Zemo will be there just to have a battle sequence where the Avengers fight together before they are torn apart. The whole Adhesive-X or whatever, they just don't have time for that story with these actors under these contracts. I imagine Zemo as one off fodder like Batroc in Winter Soldier - the need for a bad guy for a specific sequence with a nod towards comic fans.

And I only expect to see Crossbones at the very end, holding a rifle.

Let me amend this:

I would prefer not to have changes to existing characters already in motion.

For new entries, yeah, a new approach that doesn't upset the apple cart would be fun.

Haha. Dunno, Spidey does look a bit cartoonish, but still, I am excited about this. I think this film will pull off the Superhero V. Superhero plot well, which is something that I don't see happening in a certain movie from that other studio coming out this month. Haha. The only Civil War that Bats/Supes movie will lead to will be the war between my liver and alcohol. mhihi:
 
See...that's what I'm on about!!!!! You all lap this corporate wallet emptier...and you are all sooooooooo excited. And, after opening day...it'll be crickets again. You will have had your fill of a very by the numbers and SAFE SAFE SAFE Marvel ad disguised as an actual movie.

And you all, to a man, have judged BvS sight unseen.

Let me tell you what's going to happen. One movie that will inspire more discussion, thus, in my opinion, making it the more interesting of the bunch. And that movie will be...BvsS. Good or bad, at least BvsS isn't the end result of focus groups.

And Mondo, I blame Marvel for A:AOU. They buried Whedon under a metric ton of corporate 'guidance' to the point that the man had to walk away. And he was the de facto Vice President of the Marvel Universe. They made Edgar Wright leave Ant Man by basically telling him what had to be in his movie. Feige is a good CEO, but House of Mouse ain't ponying up kajillion dollar budgets unless they are guaranteed maximum cash in.
 
I am not judging BvS unseen as much as setting the expectation bar so low to minimize my disappointment or *gasp* even lead to my being pleasantly surprised. Lowering bars is one of my main coping strategies to protect my geekdom. ;)

And maybe some here are sheep, but I am a dolphin. :grin:
 
Winter Soldier was one of the best movies of the year AND one of the best superhero movies of all time, so I definitely need to lower my Orphy bar for Civil War. :)
 
What about Marvel's Agents of Shield? Can that Ward character get any more chances to come back from the dead? Maybe he is related to one of the producers or someone else from the studio. Also, the story lines just don't make it work in the Marvel Universe, even with the occasional Nick Fury cameo or Agent Coulson and his bionic hand. Maybe someone can explain it to me.
