The Avengers/Marvel movies

Just saw Iron Man 3. I thought it was better than Iron Man 2 (which I did not care for) but the theater was packed and crowd was very enthusiastic, which likely influenced my own opinion somewhat. It's beyond stupid in parts and they play up the comedy big time. And, as expected by any action movie these days, the final action scene drags on for wayyy too long. But overall it was fine. Probably not something I'll ever have the urge to watch again but it was pretty entertaining for what it was. Bring a bucket of popcorn and low expectations and you'll have a pretty good time, unless your name is Dr Naysay.

Did you see standard or 3d Brownie? If 3d, did it add/subtract or meh? Going tomorrow, and while I am looking forward to it I can't say I am overly excited. Maybe it's enough already. So yeah, I guess my expectations are fairly low going in. Want to see all the spoilery stuff about the Mandarin they have been hinting at in the reviews.

Standard. I think some of the action scenes would probably look pretty cool in 3d, but at the same time there are parts when a lot of things are moving across the screen simultaneously so the 3d part might make it different to keep track of everything.

Unfairly maligned yet again!!!

I actually quite enjoy Iron Man 2. So there.

Oh, well my apologies then ;)

The Avengers -- spoiler discussion

I saw Iron Man 3 last night (standard not 3D) and I have a real problem with the villains. Anyone else know what I mean?
I'll wait to discuss it after more folks have seen it.

I just saw Iron Man 3 and I have no idea what you mean.

Well... I think I might have some idea of what you mean but I liked the movie anyway.

At this point I don't expect my MARVEL movies to make perfect sense and I'm ok with that.

Going to be as vague as posiible here...but I am going to discuss a few things that some might consider CONCEPTUAL SPOILERS

You have been warned

Saw it this afternoon. Look, they make a decision in the middle of the movie. It's a neat trick and very funny/clever. BUT, it derails the credibility of the threat. That being said, was it worth it? Yeah, probably. We will be able to discuss more when the spoiler ban lifts in about a week(that seems fair, no?).

My major complaint...it's Dark Knight disease. An Iron Man movie that's not got much Iron Man in it(feel free to say that in a Monty Python SPAM voice...I did). Sure, lots of sequences with empty suits. And that's pretty appropriate because this movie is one...big...empty...suit. Part detective movie, part kid-buddy movie and a lot of busybusy without anything really happening. Sure, it was enjoyable enough, RDJ can do this in his sleep and he kinda sorta did. For the life of me I cannot understand Shane Black's X-mas fascination. It felt really odd to be watching a holiday movie in May. End of the day, a few fun moments wrapped in some headshaking plot holes(that you really just forgive at some point...like Doc says, you don't expect these movies to make sense anymore). Completely forgettable and disposable. Neither good enough to praise or bad enough to tear apart.

And the 3d was neither great or horrible. If you like the overall depth that a post conversion provides it's fine.

I also felt weird about the Christmas thing. Especially since it really added nothing to the film.

Other than that......

It felt like a typical James Bond movie to me.

Gadgets, wise cracking, hot ladies, 'splosions..... sure it didn't really make perfect sense and you never really got the sense that there were real "consequences" but it was fun.

SO UP YOURS EVERYBODY WHO SAYS I CANT JUST RELAX AND ENJOY A FREAKING MOVIE AND HAVE FUN.

EAT IT!!!!!

Oh... you know what?

I do have one actual complaint. The post credits scene was disappointing.

SOMEWHAT SPOILERY NON-SPOILER!!!!

My complaint revolves around who makes up the core of Extremis. You think THAT pool of people are ready to turn anti-USA terrorist?
Seriously ruined for me.

Maybe my relative unfamiliarity with the Iron Man "family" and MARVEL in general made that not a big deal for me?
