WTF?! He looks terrible! Why is he blue?!!?
I'll wait to see the movie before I start crying, I guess.
Saw GotG. While there were some cool visuals and a few funny moments I thought it was the most cliched movie I have ever seen. Like they had a checklist they had to mark off. Didn't think the cast had any chemistry together whatsoever. Was really looking forward to it and was really disappointed. Thanos looked lame and I liked the blue assassin/daughter waaaaaaaay better than Zoe Saldono's character.
Mostly disagree with you. Your point about the cliche's is fair. There is a formula for these movies. Where I disagree with you is cast chemistry. I thought, considering 2 of the characters were animated, there was a lot of chemistry. More than enough to forgive the everpresent 'quest for the magical thingee' plot skeleton that ALL these movies are built upon. To add, there was a nice commitment to practical make up effects and the music was terrific. Chris Pratt was hella fun and charming and as cool as Rocket was...Groot was the real winner in the picture. Dave Bautista was surprisingly funny as well. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it.
Star Lord be praised! After the worst July in more than a decade, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is breathing life back into this summer’s box office. The film got off to a huge start on Thursday night, taking in $11.2 million from early previews. That beats the $10.2 million that Captain America: The Winter Soldier earned from its Thursday screenings (also starting at 7 p.m.) back in April. Captain America 2 went on to claim $36.9 million on Friday and an opening weekend of $95 million. Based on Friday’s estimate, Guardians of the Galaxy could be headed even higher. Disney is reporting that Guardians earned $37.8 million from 4,080 locations on its opening day. That’s the third-highest single day of 2014 (behind Transformers: Age of Extinction and Godzilla) and it suggests an opening weekend of around $95 million. Hit the jump for details and Friday’s top five.
guardians-of-the-galaxy-teaser-posterIf you’ve been paying attention to this summer’s box office you know that it’s been a little lackluster. No film has earned more than $250 million at the domestic box office (compared to four last summer) and only one title (Transformers 4) opened above $100 million. July is typically the most lucrative month of the summer, but in 2014 total revenue for the month failed to pass $1 billion for the first time since 2002. The year’s top two films are still Captain America 2 and The LEGO Movie, both released before the summer even started.

Yeah I'm with ya jd. I thought this movie was a lot of fun. A lot of the same reasons I enjoyed Pacific Rim (the humor from Ron Perlman and Charlie Day) seemed to run through this one as well. It was light and was meant to be a good time.
I thought Groot totally stole it as well. The work the animators did with that character (and Rocket) was great. They really had a ton of personality in the face and body language.
