How Doctor Strange Will Differ From Previous Marvel Movies
http://www.cinemablend.com/new/How-Doctor-Strange-Differ-From-Previous-Marvel-Movies-72597.html

While confirming that she will be playing The Ancient One in Doctor Strange, actress Tilda Swinton told Screen Crush that Doctor Strange will have a unique feel to it compared to the other Marvel movies. She said:
I’m a Marvel fan and I think this particular world that Doctor Strange goes into is really, really, really exciting. I’m really interested as both an actor and a fan to see what’s done in this particular world. It’s all about creativity. It’s not about everything exploding at the end. It’s about something very different.

Marvel hasn’t divulged any specific story details for Doctor Strange, but fans can likely expect a more unusual superhero offering. Last year’s plot synopsis mentioned that the movie would explore the "hidden world of magic," which includes alternate dimensions like the Astral Plane. While we will see the Sorcerer Supreme fighting various kinds of malevolent beings and rogue magic users, it’s unlikely that he will be fighting them the same way this universe’s superheroes do, i.e. engaging enemies on an actual battlefield with fists flying. Strange relies on his magical abilities and artifacts to fight evil, and often times these battles occur in these other realms where the laws of physics aren’t the same as they are on Earth.

‘Ant-Man’ Is A Rote, Assembly-Line Superhero Movie
http://uproxx.com/filmdrunk/2015/07/review-ant-man-assembly-line-superhero-movie/

All movie studios are product factories, to some extent, but perhaps never before has a superhero movie felt so much like it came from an assembly line. Not that good, not that bad, just the result of a highly efficient, highly mechanized process. Which makes it that much stranger that it keeps trying to do comedy. Aw, look, the widget has jokes!

I like to imagine estranged Ant-Man director Edgar Wright as Lucy in that episode of I Love Lucy where she and Ethel work at the chocolate factory, trying to stuff larger universe tie-ins and pointless cameos into his shirt when he couldn’t keep up with Marvel’s conveyor belt, until he eventually got fired and replaced with Yes Man director Peyton Reed, who I have to imagine could package product faster and didn’t try to eat the chocolates.

Ant-Man is much better than Iron Man 2, and that’s what’s so scary about it. That Disney has figured out how to make the same teaser-disguised-as-movie in a much less overt, more inoffensive way. To have Paul Rudd wink at the camera to distract you between SHIELD name drops, a cute puppy to pet while they ready the drill. You imagine Disney’s ultimate goal is a theater full of orderly, ticket-buying youths and families, who come for the brand above all, then leave the theater thinking they’re happy, but with a lobotomized stare and a vague sense of disquiet. DID YOU CLAP AT THE STAN LEE CAMEO? WE CAN’T LEAVE UNLESS YOU CLAP AT THE STAN LEE CAMEO. Serializeit Macht Frei...

ANT-MAN Review: Marvel’s Latest Is Too Minor to Matter
http://collider.com/ant-man-review-paul-rudd/

I’m sure years from now we’ll have a better handle on the parts of Ant-Man that came from Reed and what came from Edgar Wright, who left during pre-production after he and Marvel could no longer agree on the direction of the film. In Reed and Marvel’s hands, that direction seems to be have landed in the most inoffensive, dry place imaginaible. If last summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy is Marvel at its most daring, then Ant-Man is the studio at its safest up until the film’s climax when the picture gets refreshingly bizarre and crazy in its humor and visuals. Perhaps Reed and Marvel were responsible for the strongest elements as well, but no matter where the credit lies, there’s far too little of what makes Ant-Man super.

Well, due to timing issues, looks like I am seeing Ant-Man tonight. Not terribly enthused...but like the rest of them, need to see in order to have an informed opinion. As far as a spoiler embargo...let's be honest, this movie is going to have very few surprises. I think, as long as you post a CLEAR and BOLD spoiler alert, we can pretty much have at it as soon as you see it. Up to you guys...

Just got a screening of Ant Man.

No spoilers - was chock full of campi-ness. Lots of cheesy one liners (some douche-chill inducing), a story with some holes, standard marvel action. But, was entertaining enough. It's prototypical Paul Rudd. I found myself laughing a few times, and rooting for him by the end.

I really wish we could've seen what Edgar Wright would've done. Bottom line if you liked the recent time marvel avengers movies, you probably will enjoy this one. If you weren't so much a fan, you won't be much a fan of this one either.

It's OK to say Ant-man was better than AOE, right? :)

Biggest Marvel problem... (in all the films?) is the villains.

It actually is.

Ok. Consider this a spoiler alert

even though I will try to be vague, I realize that even telling you something that didn't happen is a spoiler.

Better than AoU simply because they had actual real human type moments in this. Not well handled or anything short of cliche' but still, at least it wasn't completely void of 'feels'. AoU was just a vapid vessel to sell 'Phase 3'.
Paul Rudd is almost the perfect dead eyed, 'just cause you say it, don't mean I am feeling it' hero that is perfect for this MARVEL takeover. Not to say he was bad...but just like anything else he has been in, he doesn't seem interested enough for me to actually form an opinion.
Anyway...Bobby Cannavale and the first drug kingpin dude from the Wire are totally wasted. What else? Michael Douglas is the only one who seems to realize, like a pro, that he should be working a delicate balance of light/dark with a side of irony. You forget just how long he has been acting. Freckles from LOST is just that. Corey Stoll chews scenery like crazy in spite of having the most wafer thin character ever written. If he had mustaches, he'd a been twirling. SOOOOOOOOOO much of this movie is exposition. Michael Douglas has a scene where he fills in the holes so much I am sure their is a longer cut where he reveals the whole script. And Michael Pena is both the best thing about the movie, and the most obvious comic relief EVER. Kinda dug the Russian dude, wanted him to say 'in Russia...the ant rides you'.
The cgi didn't even try. The ants were laffable. Sharknado good.
Long story short...Peyton did a workmanlike job on a workmanlike film. It's so obvious which parts of the movie are Wright/Cornish-'s. Just would have liked to see the man carry it across the goal line.

I usually enjoy films for what they are. I kind of expected the cheesy cgi of the ants. I didn't mind it. I really enjoyed his film. Pena was best part of the movie. The action was pretty good. At least people died in this movie. Unlike AoU when buildings were falling & 1,000's of people were miraculously rescued within 10 seconds. Garbage!

Yeah, I feel pretty much the same. Kind of cookie-cutter all around, with the best parts being obviously Wright/Cornish material.

It was fun enough for what it was, but I do wish Wright and Cornish would have been able to finish with it.

I really enjoyed Ant-Man. I don't think there was anything risky or super exciting about it, but it was a really fun origin story. The ants looked pretty ridiculous, but the shrinking/growing effects were really good. Corey Stoll could have been such a great villain if he was given more to work with. Thanos better be ****ing amazing, because Marvel villains have all been absolutely terrible so far.

I'm still annoyed they totally fridged Janet Van Dyne, but Hope was pretty great and I'm excited to see her as Wasp.

Well, she wasn't in THIS movie...but come on. They made it pretty clear she is just waiting to be found.

ANT-MAN Post-Credits Scenes Explained: What Do They Mean for the MCU?

well...free advertising? I swear, it's getting like the crossover events. You have to buy every damned tie in just to get some insignificant kernel of information. It's why I hate Marvel comics and I am really starting to get annoyed with the movies.
