The Avengers/Marvel movies

Why did I not like this as much as I was expecting?

PRETTY SPOILER FREE, BUT CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED

edit: After thinking about it...the opening is AWESOME. Full on Jack Kirby, HammerTwirling God of Thunder, was ready to proclaim this as Marvel's best outside of Guardians...but then, the tone just shifted and it never really gelled as a movie. Overstuffed to the point of kitchen sink. And overlong as well. There is a shorter/tighter edit of this movie that is terrific, but as it stands...not so much. I like that Waititi wanted to make a Flash Gordon like movie, and at times it's spot on. Problem is, forcing Thor/Hulk/etc into that template just never seemed to feel natural. You know how, in a Marvel movie, the Stan Lee cameo is usually a breath of fresh air. Well, in this movie it just felt like overkill. It may improve on repeated viewings, but initially it left me cold. Oh, and Ruffalo's Bruce Banner by way of Woody Allen is as annoying as it sounds. Just felt like the movie was too self aware and winking at the audience so hard that it felt like desperation.

And don't dismiss my complaints because I am a 'Marvel hater'. I so very much wanted...almost needed to love this movie. And it just didn't work for me.

I enjoyed the s*** outta Thor. It was a goddamn romp.

A romp I say!

sidenote: I have never found Cate Blanchett to be hotter. To quote Natalie Portman in another Thor film, "It's a good look."

Disney May Be in Talks to Buy 21st Century Fox
http://collider.com/disney-fox-deal-marvel-movies/

Early talks...but it would bring Xmen, Deadpool, FANTASTIC FOUR back under the Marvel Umbrella

EDIT:Sorry Orph, but the article says they are on again, off again talks. Fox is looking to sell off parts of their "brand" to save other parts. So, it seems like they are trying to stay afloat and not just lose everything.

Could James Gunn Take on a Joss Whedon-esque Mentorship Role in Marvel’s Phase 4?
http://collider.com/marvel-phase-4-kevin-feige-james-gunn/#guardians-of-the-galaxy-3

With Joss it was more unique. It was more of a sort of a contractual thing as part of his deal on Avengers 2 that he would help us oversee it. There’s not that with James. But what there is with James is that camaraderie and the notion that a lot of what’s been done in Guardians and a lot of the great characters that we’ve done in Guardians could have potential as their own things. Working with James to figure out where those could go and how that could work has certainly been part of our discussions.”
