The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

Judging by how well the last few series' have gone?

No one.

He's a cool looking character with little/nothing else to go on. Like Moon Knight.

Hey...I dig Moon Knight. I remember the 'adult' b&w comic mags from my childhood w/him and Misty Knight. They were kinda like a superhero version of EERie comics. Ghost Rider was fun back in the day too. You take the funky '70's elements out and you just have another faceless cape. Part of the problem with Iron Fist/Power Man as well. Hell. throw Man-Thing in there too. Some characters just don't translate to a new era. Or else the wrong folks are writing them. I just read Dazzler was getting another go in extreme xmen...see above.

I dig Moon Knight, too. The Mackie/Sinkiewich stuff is totally awesome, but... that's it. No one else has been able to do anything even remotely interesting with him, in my opinion, and that includes the recent Bendis/Maleev stuff. He works ok as a character in a book like Secret Avengers where he's part of a team, but otherwise he's basically a less interesting Batman.

Iron Fist has come a long way, for me. I never cared about him before, but his last series by Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker made me a fan. A lot of focus on Kuun-Lun and mythical Asian **** probably helped. Luke Cage is also more interesting to me now than he ever was before, but he barely shows up anywhere anymore and when he does, he's just mad about someone threatening his wife/baby. But overall, I think those two were "reinvented" well enough.

I was a big Ghost Rider guy in the 90's too, but unless the artist is someone I love, I couldn't care less anymore.

I haven't checked out any of these Valiant relaunches yet, but I kind of feel like I ought to.

It's funny you mention that on top of the Moon Knight 'good looking yet empty' stuff. When I worked for a comic store and those Valiant titles came out they died on the shelves. Talk about having good content yet being as unattractive as possible. They were the equivalent of a gal w/ a 'good personality'. Yet the few folks that bought them(mostly older folks) loved them. I could never get into them. From the monochromatic color schemes to, hell...they were ugly books...even the lettering. So I don't know Adgy...maybe you should, but I wouldn't.

Well, the old Valiant stuff never did anything for me. But since they're rebooting everything, some of it looks like it might be pretty decent.

Probably just wait a while and flip through a trade once they get to that stage.

OK from now on whenever we use the rhetorical "Who gives a **** about..." let's all just understand that we're thinking "besides jerseydevil" to ourselves.

as long as you allow that, whenever something is universally admired or enjoyed we are all thinking 'except Ol' Doc Naysay, who is currently staring at apples and turning them sour' to ourselves.:caked:

Hey man. That's what I do.

Fish gotta swim. Birds gotta fly. I gotta naysay until the day I die.

EDIT : With apologies to Tom Lehrer. Or rather Oscar Hammerstein....
