This is AWESOME. All of those books are good.

FANTASTIC FOUR Casts Reg E. Cathey as Dr. Storm

First up from Heat Vision is news that Cathey will be joining The Fantastic Four in the role of Dr. Storm. Now, for the uninitiated, that?s not a villain partnering up with Doctor Doom (Toby Kebbell). He?s actually the father of Johnny and Sue Storm, played by Jordan and Mara respectively. The sharp-eyed among you might have noticed that Cathey is black, just as many fans of the franchise noticed that Jordan was black back when he was cast as Johnny/The Human Torch. However Fox and Trank decide to explain the family dynamics (or if they decide it?s not worth an explanation at all), I?m happy to see a little more diversity creeping into the superhero landscape. The movie will also serve to reunite The Wire alumni, Cathey and Jordan.

I still am not fond of recasting iconic characters racially for whatever reason used. It's not that I don't want to see diversity or anything like that...it's just a simple matter of these characters being long established. I don't like changes to costume, distinct hairstyles(Wolverine/Quicksilver) either. Call me crazy, I want my comic book characters to look like they did in the comics. It's kinda the point ain't it. Still, about the only thing the original FF movies did get right was Evans as Johnny. So making the move with a terrific actor like Jordan is a smart smart change. And Cathey, although a better villain, is also no slouch as an actor. I am curious as hell about this and the rumors that Fox was trying to replace Trank at the last minute give me hope that we might see something here that makes the studio nervous instead of some placatingy bland by-the-numbers routine like the first 2 FF movies. I don't mind a failure as long as it's an interesting one. Let's hope sink or swim that this doesn't fail due to studio interference(Wolverine:Origins).

On the other hand, if it DOES fail miserably, then maybe they'll stop trying and the rights will revert back to Marvel?

Honestly, Cathey being cast puts this whole ****ing movie in a new light for me. I'm curious as hell and even a little optimistic.
