SGT. ROCK CHARTS A COURSE FOR "DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW"
DC dropped a bunch of hints about what’s coming up on their Instagram account. First off, we’ll be seeing two Justice Society members, Hourman and The Sandman (as in the guy with the gas gun and mask, not Dream of the Endless). We’ll also be seeing DC’s war hero, Sgt. Rock, who anchored a long-running war comic for almost 30 years and is still a popular cult character. Finally, we’ll be seeing — of all people — the original Red Tornado, Ma Hunkel. For those unfamiliar, this is Ma Hunkel’s headgear:
Hunkel was a parody of superhero comics of the time when it caught on. She fought crime in longjohns and, yes, wore a pot on her head. Despite the joking appearance, over time it’s been shown she can kick butt with the best of them and was even made a member of the Justice Society. She’s so popular, she was made fun of by Marvel in the form of company anti-mascot Forbush Man.
So, yes, Legends of Tomorrow is willing to get a bit silly. Now, somebody get Keith Giffen on the phone so we can finally see the Heckler get his due.
I have been told by close sources that Neil Gaiman isn’t going to be writing any more Sandman, but he may be persuaded to write the kind of back-of-envelope pitches for related characters that others could take on.
You may remember that Tekno Comics built a whole line on such an idea, recently being reprinted by Papercutz, Lady Justice, Teknophage, Wheel Of Worlds and the like.
And DC Vertigo has published many a spinoff comic based on Neil’s Sandman series in the past. You may remember one of them was a comic called Lucifer. Of which we now have a TV series and a new comic series.
So here is what I have been led to expect at some point. A number of Sandman-based comic books, using ideas from Gaiman and developed by new creative teams for Vertigo.

"Cinema Purgatorio" will be an ongoing monthly series published by Avatar Press comprised of short stories in the vein of classic horror comics published by EC Comics and Warren Publishing. Each issue will feature work from the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" team of Moore and O'Neill, as well as a number of other high profile creators.
On Monday, five Viacom networks -- including MTV, VH1 and Spike -- will run custom TV spots for the upcoming "Deadpool" film in place of all other commercials during three hours of programming.
Programs such as "Tosh.0," "Workaholics" and "Golden Girls" will run only these "Deadpool" spots, which were customized to fit the target demographic of each show. For instance, the "Golden Girls" spots will feature Deadpool with a rose and other Valentine's Day trappings. "Teen Mom," "Ridiculousness," "@midnight," "Love & Hip Hop" and "Cops" will also be part of the targeted programming.
