Rebellion have launched a 2000AD ebook containing short prose stories by Neil Gaiman, Mark Millar, Peter Miligan, Dan Abnett, Alan Grant and more. Originally appearing in 2000AD and Judge Dredd annuals, they have never been reprinted until now.

But it also unearthed a couple of other potential castings from… let’s call them secondary sources. An amber light if you will.

Ones that have seem to have Darwyn Cooke talking about writing a Comedian series.

Others that have Darwyn Cooke arriving at the Canadian Fan Expo unannounced, to take Joe Kubert out for lunch. And the discussion? Reportedly, a Nite Owl series mini-series by Andy Kubert with his father, Joe Kubert, participating. Something that involved the original Nite Owl and his successor. Drawn by a father/son team.

I can’t judge as to the veracity of these. But doesn’t the idea of a Kubert/Kubert Nite Owl/Nite Owl II series just feel so right in your gut?

The other word I’ve had about Dave Gibbons’ involvement from the same sources as above, is that it’s not exactly an active one, more passive acquiescence – “for this wave”. Could four prequel mini-series just be the start?

I’ve also been told that NYCC was the intended venue to announce this project, but I should now look to January…

‘Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope’ To Be Released Spring 2012 With Mini-Traveling Comic Con Tour

Morgan Spurlock‘s latest documentary Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope was one of Peter’s favorite movies at Toronto and one of my favorite movies of Fantastic Fest. It’s a totally different film for the Super Size Me director as he stays off camera and follows several unique people on their journey to the mecca of pop culture, San Diego Comic-Con. In doing so , Spurlock dissects not only why Comic Con is such an amazing event, but why we geeks love what we love. The film is beautiful, inspiring, funny and, up until today, had only played at festivals.

That’ll change next year because Wrekin Hill Entertainment and the National Entertainment Collectibles Association have acquired the film for theatrical distribution in Spring 2012. In addition, the film will tour larger venue and bring audiences outside of San Diego their own kind of mini-Comic-Con experience complete with Q&A’s, contests, presentations, collectibles and more. A film like Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope was never going to be a massive, mainstream hit. It was made for and by fans of pop culture (For example, Harry Knowles is a producer and Stan Lee and Joss Whedon’s names are on it) so this release makes perfect sense. Not only is the film a love letter to Comic-Con, it’s a love letter to fandom and the idea that audiences nationwide will be able to see the film and then get a experience akin to Comic-Con following it is very exciting. It’s almost like what Kevin Smith did with Red State – show the film and give audiences something they wouldn’t just get if they were just going to the theater. As more details on this are released, I hope to find out there are exclusive toys, premiere footage, filmmakers not related to this movie taking about their upcoming projects. As much as possible to really give audience members a Hall H, Comic Con experience.

That’s not to say just seeing the movie on it’s own isn’t good too. It’s a movie that I can’t wait to own and share with people who ask me why I get so excited for Comic-Con every year. After watching this, it’ll be pretty obvious.

Director Patty Jenkins Exits ?Thor 2′ | /Film

Patty Jenkins, who famously directed Charlize Theron to an Oscar in Monster, had been set to direct Marvel?s Thor 2 for some time. She was meeting with the cast and all was looking well for the film?s November 15, 2013 release date. However, Jenkins has now left the project due to creative differences making her the second director to leave the project, the first being Game of Thrones helmer Brian Kirk. There?s more below.

Deadline broke first broke news of this story and though they say the reason was ?creative differences? they also add ?the feeling is that she?ll probably end up working on one of these superhero films, but perhaps not on a sequel.? So all is good with Jenkins, just not between her and Thor 2.

Paul Cornell Off Stormwatch After Issue 6 Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

“I’ll be staying on Demon Knights and Saucer Country, but 6 is my last issue of Stormwatch. Thanks, everyone. Good luck to Paul Jenkins.”

The DC blog has announced that Paul Jenkins will be writing issues 6 and 7. However DC don’t mention Paul Cornell or the current Stormwatch artist Miguel Sepulveda.

I understand Stormwatch is the book that DC intend to use to tell the story of Strange, the hooded woman who appeared in Flashpoint #5 and all the DC New 52 first issues, and as a result is under increased editorial pressure.

This book was one that I'd been thinking about dropping, but was holding on to because of Cornell. Guess I don't need to worry about that anymore.

DC Confirms Gail Simone Leaving The Fury Of Firestorm Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

I was called a peddler of falsehoods by some for stating a couple of months ago that Gail Simone had walked off The Fury Of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men, over editorial conflicts on the book. Truth is it was a rumour I felt incredibly safe in reporting as everyone in the industry seemed to know it, even if Bleeding Cool was the one to put it on the page.

Today, DC have confirmed that Gail is no longer with the book as of issue 7, with Ethan being joined by Joe Harris. Van Sciver will also draw as well as co-write the book for two issues (see below), with regular artist Yildiray Cinar returning for issue 9.

Marvel Announce Avengers Vs. X-Men In April Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

What is it with Marvel and red-headed mutants? Jean Grey almost destroyed the universe and ate the asparagus people, the Scarlet Witch went all nutty and started killing Avengers, and Hope… well, we’ll get to Hope.

USA Today is reporting this afternoon that Marvel’s next big event is Avengers vs. X-Men, a 12-issue miniseries coming out this April involving all three of the above-mentioned women.

X-Men vs. the AvengersRather than one lead writer, the event will feature five: Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker and Jonathan Hickman, with two writers, Bendis and Aaron, kicking things off in a prologue drawn by Frank Cho.

Goddammit. I don't want to care. I'm tired of event-driven stories. But those names... I don't know if I can stay away.
 
Well... we'll see. Depends on what the reviews are like, I guess.

Going to have a hard time not buying a book with those names on it, though.

These aren’t the only changes coming. Issue 7 seems the cut off point for many, with George Perez leaving Superman, Fabian Nicieza leaving Legion Lost for Tom DeFalco, and Ann Nocenti taking over from Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgens – who took over from JT Krul – on Green Arrow.

One that hasn’t been confirmed, but that Bleeding Cool told you a while ago, is that Ivan Brandon walked off Men Of War after issue 6 for, well, basically the same reasons some others left their books, increased editorial conflict with note upon contradictory note on certain books making their jobs untenable.
