The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

I think a lot of titles are going to go away. I think it's a case of DC going Ultimates and not keeping two continuities going. Will it blow up/revert at some point sure. But it will jumpstart sales for a while and certainly conversation. I have a feeling there will be far fewer titles when the smoke clears, which is fine because 16 Batman titles and 17 Superman titles are a bit much.

I did read that Barbara Gordon is going to be Batgirl again, so that's interesting. And Action comics is restarting with Deadman as the featured character...so that's cool too. Personally, I have always been a DC guy so I am kinda intrigued by the whole thing.

I get that, and I think there's a lot of opportunity for them to create new fans. I've never been much of a DC guy myself, but if the creative teams are interesting, I can be talked into trying new things, especially if the character is someone I've never really cared for/about.

But on the other hand, it seems kind of ridiculous to just undo all the stuff that's just been done in DC. They have a lot of good books going that could conceivably suffer, and we all know how well the stereotypical comic fan embraces change.

I dunno. I guess the only title I'm genuinely concerned about is Batman Inc, but... what happens with the proposed Batwoman series that was supposed to be out later this year? If they **** that up, I'm gonna riot! :)

DC Relaunch: Grifter #1 Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Bleeding Cool understands that the DC Relaunch will also bring back a number of Wildstorm titles, as part of the new DC Universe.

Jim Lee’s Wildstorm studio and books were closed down at the end of last year, the licensed and creator owned titles shifted to DC, the staff moved to DC Digital and the Wildstorm Universe books canned. Well, it looks like several of the fifty-two issue one titles in September will be Wildstorm-related. We can probably guess Authority, Gen 13, WildCATS and the like, but I hear Grifter will also be a title.

Now, THIS, I like. Making these Wildstorm characters part of DCU is a VERY interesting idea.

DC Relaunch: DC Women To Wear Trousers Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

I understand that there is an editorial edict for the DC Comics superlaunch that their female superheroes wear more… practical clothing. So Wonder Woman gets to keep her trousers. But the likes of Supergirl will be redesigned so they aren’t running around in a little skirt flashing their panties at every available opportunity either. Female superhero characters will have their legs covered.

They can still wear tightblack PVC, but gone are the days when the uniforms informed you whether or not your favourite superheroine had undergone special shaving.

Haven’t heard one way of the other about breasts though. All you Power Girl fans will have to wait for news on that one.

Wonder what Zatanna's going to look like...

Yeah...this DC thing sounds a lot like a complete reorganization of the DCU the more you hear. I dunno, I guess I would be bothered more if I wasn't so dulled by all the continuity shuffling that Marvel does on almost a weekly basis. As far as projects that were announced pre Flash Point, it remains to be seen but an oft rescheduled title, that may not fit into the overall new plan...wouldn't hold my breath Adgy. After all I don't really see Batgirl and Batwoman existing together.

I get the feeling that you're correct, but... ugh. Can we have it as a non-continuity book or some ****? I need it.

Wonder Woman is wearing pants, but her boobs are still about to fall out.

And then there's this:

Details Emerge On DC's Relaunch - Comic Book Resources

A new title starring Superman written by Grant Morrison.

Whelp, there's one book immediately getting added to my pull list!

James Robinson And Philip Tan

I'm loving Robinson on the 14 millionth attempt at a Hawkman series, but better than him have tried and failed. Sadly, it looks like Ted Kord is still going to be dead. I would personally buy every issue of a BlueBeetle/Booster gold comic if it had that same groove they used to have in the old JLA days. Looks like they are going to 'redesign' a lot of the classic costumes too. I heard Supes new outfit is going to have piping and ****, which sounds like an alternate jersey to me. Oh and he's supposed to have knee pads too...which is too damned funny to me(think about it people). I wonder how much of that is Warner/Dc trying to test the waters on a new Supes costume since that legal decision grants seperate rights of the costume to one creator and the character to another starting in, I think 2013. I have a feeling DC may pull a St Elsewhere at some point if this goes all New Coke on them.

That artwork is borderline Liefieldian. Looks all shiny and silly. What's with Flash's headwings? And Wonder Woman looks a little thigh-y. And the less said about the aluminum Cyborg the better.

That's an angle I hadn't thought of before. Interesting...

Liefeldian? Ouch!

Paramount Buys Rights To DC's THE MIGHTY!
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pcitures has bought the rights to DC Comics' THE MIGHTY, a comic book series written by Peter J. Tomasi and Keith Champagne. The story is about a cop, Gabriel Cole, who works with Section Omega, the police force that is assigned to work with the Earth's one true superhero, Alpha-One. Cole was rescued by Alpha-One when he was a child, and now heads the force that works with him, stopping crimes and assisting Alpha-One. But Cole discovers that Alpha-One isn't what he appears to be, and that sets him on a course where a normal man must go up against a virtual god.

What is a Mr. Terrific?

My exposure to the character is limited to only Greg Rucka's "Checkmate" series, which lasted all of 20-some issues, but from that I have a positive opinion of him. He was very cool and I would not be against possibly reading a book starring him, depending on the creative team.

And, JD, if you haven't read Checkmate, you should do so. Possibly the best spy superhero stuff I've ever read, and it's got plenty of Suicide Squad-ers in it. Mostly Amanda Waller, but... yeah.
