The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

This whole thing is a fascinating example of how "art" changes when global finance becomes the most important factor.

You do realize that this is the fault of men right? Because they sure as hell aren't catering to the comic book geek girl with this ****.

Unless they are the stupid bitches that don't even bother buying their own comics and just get tattoos of characters on their slut bodies just for the sex appeal.

All I frikkin know is that folks are feverishly reworking their SDCC looks. And that means one of two things...there will be good sights to be had, or there will be hilarious trainwreck sights to be had. It's a win/win.

Hurm...always liked Captain Cold. Hell, Flash has always had the best Rogues gallery...buncha ****ty second tier wannabe's that really represent what a supervillain would really be like. Some dumb joe in long underoos with delusions of grandeur. Mirror Master, Captain Cold, Digger/Cap'n Boomerang, reverse flash...nice stuff.

Mark Romanek Says He Won't Direct WOLVERINE

A few weeks ago, we reported on a shortlist of directors that Fox was considering to helm The Wolverine, the follow-up to 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. One of the best directors on that list (and my personal favorite) was Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go). Well today comes the unfortunate news that Romanek has passed on helming the flick. The director confirmed to Digital Spy (via The Playlist) that the material wasn’t quite up his alley, though he did give the Christopher McQuarrie script a semi-compliment:

“That’s just one of those stories that floated around. I was on their list, I received the script months ago. It didn’t seem like my kind of thing. That script was a terrific version of that kind of thing, but not something I felt really passionate about.”

While it’s disappointing that we won’t be seeing Romanek’s version of a superhero flick, I’m excited to see him do something he’s passionate about when he chooses his next project. Fox’s shortlist for Wolverine directors is rather low on depth, favoring more eye-candy friendly helmers (Fast Five‘s Justin Lin, Jumper‘s Doug Liman). After Romanek, my pick of the lot would be James Mangold. He’s proven himself dramatically (3:10 to Yuma) and he’s also shown he can stage fantastic action set-pieces (Knight and Day). The Wolverine stars Hugh Jackman, and is largely set in Japan.

My pull-list was not a good sight for the comic store worker on Saturday. More red ink than an "F" at school. Sure they had some old titles on there that I hacked-off but going from 40 something to less than 10 was jarring.

Hero Complex 2011 Recap: Warren Beatty (DICK TRACY), Richard Donner (SUPERMAN)

among other things

And for those wondering what Downey Jr. said about The Avengers, he was asked how it?s been going:

?Well, I hate everybody. I?m not talking about the cast and I?m not talking about Joss. What I mean is and Jon you can probably attest to this?I tend to look at a scene and say ?This is absolutely impossible, we can?t shoot this, it?s horrible. I can tell you ten other movies its been in. I refuse.? I usually start off the morning by refusing to do what I?ve signed on to do. So I brought that attitude, happily. Anyway, I just thought how are you going to put all us clowns together? He?s wearing a suit. He?s all jacked up. He?s so and so. And poor Mark Ruffalo, what he?s gonna out do us? And we?re about six weeks in and I have to say Joss Whedon is nailing it. He?s so smart and so good. It?s going to be great. I can?t believe I just said it, I never could?ve believed it but it?s gonna be great.?

Pretty comprehensive. That quote from RDJ has me a little worried about the state of his sobriety.

Promo Poster for THE AVENGERS Gives First Look at Costume for Hawkeye

And who HATES it???? THIS GUY! Look, all of the other Avengers look like the Avengers. Ultimates be damned all to hell. My opinion is that swapping the traditional purple costume and half mask for some skintight black leathers just makes Renner just looks rough trade at the Blue Oyster bar. He ain't that great looking that he can't put the damned mask on. Serious fail.

This is what Clint Barton looks ****ing like!!!!!! I guess Renner ain't man enough to make purple rock. (careful what you say KINGS fans...)

Green Arrow>Hawkeye

:D

Actually they are both pretty equal. Both have had their periods of  GA has actually got some cred because DC started taking him seriously instead of giving him arrows with boxing gloves on the tip. AAArgh that damned post took so much time and it's on the back pages already. Ok, if you want to see a promo poster of what the Avengers are gonna look like go back a page.

And who is that looking over Zatanna's shoulder...Blue Devil. Damn DC has been trying to make THAT work forEVER. I love him, got the whole 30 some issue run, but for ****s sake DC you have other things to worry about.

That Hawkeye photoshop looks like they just chopped him out of his 5 mins in Thor... In Joss we Trust!

I'm tempted to say it would be difficult to pull off the purple costume in real life, but... that's pretty much exactly what I said about Thor before that movie came out and I was clearly wrong.

Interesting that Thor is still not wearing his helmet.

Yeah but Thor's helmet is not an integral part of his costume. It's on again off again. And without the helmet there are enough characteristics to make him easily identifiable. Hawkeyes entire identity is that costume...I don't do Ultimates. I can tolerate Sam Jackson as Fury...because it's Sam Mf'ing Jackson but Renner in what is basically bike leathers has nothing in common with the traditional(and IMO only) Hawkeye. How many people really give a rat's ass about Hawkeye besides me. And the few people that care, Marvel just craps on. Better to leave him out entirely. FAIL.:bangin:
