Cage is a little odd. I prefer the funky cool version but that's sooooo Black Dynamite. I just don't care for the newer updated version as much. T'challa has always been the same and still is. Classic cool.

There's just no way you could get away with that anymore. I enjoy the new Cage quite a bit, myself.

Atlas to Produce LANGLEY HIGH Movie

Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) and Alex Garter (Season of the Witch) of Atlas Entertainment have signed on to produce the adaptation of the comic book Langley High with Benderspink. Variety provides the synopsis:


Story centers on a student from Langley High, the school that’s located just 1.7 miles from CIA headquarters. After his father is captured in Russia and disavowed as an agent of the CIA, the student teams up with an undercover CIA agent teacher from his high school and ends up on a mission of revenge.

The premise set up by comic creators Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman has that nice hook—I’m already in love with the first act where they show us around the school. Once they leave the school, though… it could work on screen with the right cast. As always, I vote for casting a real teenager as the main high schooler.

‘Thor’ Sequel Will Feature More World-Hopping, Continue Jane Foster and Odin Arcs

Jenkins helped Charlize Theron win an Oscar when she directed Monster, but that film is Jenkins’ sole feature credit. The Thor 2 deal seems predicated on two things: the success of her pilot for The Killing, and the fact that her quote is low.

52 issues, and a sellout ain’t the problem?|?The Beat

While you can argue just what selling out means, it seems DC aced it this month — all 52 of the new 52 sold out from Diamond, and all will have 2nd editions. Even LEGION LOST, HAWK AND DOVE, ACTION, and BATGIRL will have third printings, and JL #1 is already in its FOURTH printing.

That leaves retailers scratching their heads over how to order #2s — more? less? The same?

I get the feeling that the #2's are going to be under-ordered and thus finding first prints will become difficult.
 
Lost Comics: The Gerber/Nowlan Man-Thing graphic novel?|?The Beat

A Man-Thing graphic novel by writer Steve Gerber and artist Kevin Nowlan. Initially started and announced in the 80s, it reportedly fell by the wayside while sitting on Nowlan’s drawing board. The original title was “Screenplay of the Living Dead Man”, intended to be a follow-up from the story “Song-Cry of the Living Dead Man” published in Man-Thing #12 way back when. It wasn’t until Gerber’s passing in 2008 that Nowlan refocused his energies and began working on the project again in his spare time. Back in March, Nowlan told me that it’ll end up being a 62-page painted story, and I even confirmed with Marvel that they’re going to publish it once Nowlan completes it.

Was Catwoman worse than Wonder Woman was good??|?The Beat

Yesterday’s Week 3 New 52 books brought the usual array of reactions, and in particular two pages from Red Hood and the Outlaws and Catwoman caused much consternation and tweetering. The usual suspects — ComicsAlliance , Blog@ and DC Women Kicking Ass were all up in arms over two admittedly icky characterizations — Starfire as a cosmic bimbo and Catwoman as Batman’s arch-enemy with benefits. Andrew Wheeler has the most astute write up:

The third page also gives us the title of the issue, ‘And Most of the Costumes Stay On’. This is your final clue that you are not imagining things; this is consciously and conspicuously an exploitation comic. This is a comic that emphatically sensationalises sex to stir up its audience.

And here’s my whole point: to everyone who wants things to change, we have to start getting behind the GOOD STUFF, not just putting down the bad stuff. Until a book of the quality of the Azzarello-Chiang Wonder Woman sells as well as (or, dare we dream…better) than the cheesecake fan service, there’s not going to be more of it. It’s easy and fun to give ridiculous poorly executed stories like CATWOMAN #1 a lot of attention…but isn’t it really helping sell the book?

Speak with your dollar. Go back and buy an extra copy of WONDER WOMAN and give it to a friend. Promote the good.

I still haven't read my Week 3 DC books, but Wonder Woman is getting REALLY good reviews.
