Marvel at the Periodic Table of Comic Book Superheroes [CHART] | Blastr

So many superheroes have gained their powers as a result of chemical mishaps that it was only a matter of time before someone thought to unite super-beings and chemistry in a single piece of art. Behold the supremely clever Heroic Table of the Elements.

This creation is the work of Scottish illustrator Matt Cowan, and though it's definitely not a comprehensive look at every single superhero ever, it does cover most of the major bases.

Superheroes are grouped (mostly) according to their affiliations. The X-Men are in blue, the Justice League in tan, the Avengers in red, the Fantastic Four in orange, the Watchmen in light brown and Neil Gaiman's the Endless in purple. Heroes that tend to fly solo are grouped together in green, and down at the bottom you'll find a whole host of supervillains.

Cowan also used the borders of each square to say something about the biological makeup of each hero. The year of creation is featured for every character, and Cowan even gave each of them a power ranking so you'll have something to debate with everyone else who reads the chart. (For example: Iron Man and the Hulk are on equal footing, but Thor is more powerful than both of them. Discuss.)

Check out a larger version of the chart below (click to embiggen).

George Perez Explains His New 52 Superman Woes | CraveOnline

You can see the direct quote on that site in the link above, but it boils down to this:

1.) When Perez took the job, he had no idea Morrison was writing Action Comics five years earlier, so Perez couldn't really write what he wanted, as he had to wait for Morrison's story to unfold, and Morrison wasn't sharing the details of his book with much of anybody, leaving Perez in a holding pattern.

2.) The final creative decisions were not in DC Editor in Chief Dan DiDio's hands and...

3.) Often times, Perez found his scripts being rewritten by higher ups - so much so that he essentially gave up on it. He would turn in a script, and tell them to change whatever they wanted and not even bother to consult him, assuming they'd change it and change it back on whims and make it all more hassle than it's worth.

4.) When Keith Giffen came on to replace him, he called Perez to make sure he wasn't being fired, and Perez told him he couldn't wait to get off of Superman. Seeing as how Giffen is also out the door already as well, it would seem to be a mutual feeling.

So the notion that DiDio was "no longer the last word" quickly leads to speculation that the folks behind Man of Steel, the fingers-crossed-hoping-it-works film franchise reboot of Superman, might be dipping their editorial fingers into the comic book pot as well - Lobdell's first issue featuring Jor-El, who has a big part in the movie personified by Russell Crowe, lends a bit of credence to that. This also supports Crave Online's Iann Robinson's continued complaints about Morrison just doing whatever he wants to do at DC without regard to others, and some critics' assertions that the New 52 stunt was not planned very well at all, as far as having a clear road map. DC couldn't even tell Perez which characters still existed after the reboot, and thus who he could still use in his stories.

Before we start thinking it was an entirely bitter experience, however, keep in mind that Perez is still working on the Second Wave New 52 book Worlds' Finest. Still, this seems to indicate that there's more volatility behind the scenes at the DC Comics offices than we may have initially thought with the whole New 52 unified front. Here's hoping Superman can get back on track soon.

Here's proof that Guardians of the Galaxy movie may actually happen | Blastr

Is it me or is this a reach? Were the GotG ever really popular? I would have thought Inhumans would have been THE go to if Marvel really wanted a galactic superteam. Or even Corsair and those cats from the Xmen books.

I think the last incarnation of the GoG did pretty well. For a while, at least. It ended up getting cancelled, anyway.

I also think they should skip the galactic super team thing and do a Silver Surfer movie or something like that, especially if they want Thanos to appear somewhere else before Avengers 2, but... that's me.

They already did that, and although Silver Surfer was done well that FF flick was a fail. Besides, Marvel doesn't own FF(and possibly Surfer). I have my heart set on an Inhumans movie. Black Bolt was always one of my faves and the Inhumans were always portrayed as these otherworldly gypsy misfits...lots of room for a good story there.

We won't have to wait 'til JLA for a Batman/Superman movie team-up | Blastr

We're still pumped from the news that Warner Bros. is finally working on a big-screen Justice League adventure. The flick's likely still a few years off, but it turns out we'll probably see a Batman and Superman movie team-up even sooner. Where?

No, Christian Bale and Henry Cavill haven't just confirmed that they're suiting up together. This is a big-screen pairing of DC Comics' flagship heroes, but it's not a live-action one. Warner Bros. has confirmed that they're casting voices for Batman and Superman to appear in the upcoming LEGO movie.

That's right, everyone's favorite building blocks are headed to the big-screen. The LEGO flick's been in development for several years now, and it's finally far enough along that casting's begun. The film will star Parks and Recreation's Chris Pratt as an ordinary LEGO figure who's mistaken for a MasterBuilder and drafted into a band of heroes fighting to keep a villain from gluing the whole LEGOverse together.

Batman and Superman will likely pop up among those heroes, and they'll both have big name voices. Will Arnett has already been tapped to voice LEGO Batman, and Variety is reporting that Channing Tatum is the studio's top choice for Superman, though he hasn't yet committed. The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who previously worked together on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, with help from Robot Chicken director Chris McKay.

So the Caped Crusader and the Man of Tomorrow are set for an official team-up, even if they will be a bit blocky. What do you think? Will this make the LEGO movie more watchable?

Ed Brubaker On Leaving Captain America, Working For Marvel, And Despairing About Before Watchmen | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

BRUBAKER: Partly, it’s the beginning a shift from work-for-hire to books I own, instead. I hit a point with the work-for-hire stuff where I was starting to feel burned out on it. Like my tank is nearing empty on superhero comics, basically. It’s been a great job, and I think I found ways to bring my voice to it, but I have a lot of other things I want to do as a writer, too, so I’m going to try that for a while instead.

I've really enjoyed his run on Captain America, but I'm more happy to hear he'll be focusing on creator-owned work. His best work has definitely been there.

Fantastic noir superhero series. Not sure I'll have the cash to splurge on an Omnibus, but I can wank over pictures, I guess.

Nope, funny you should mention it though...IDW is reprinting KISS' Greatest Hits vol1 which will contain that gem...of which I had so many moth eared busted ass copies...somewhere in my storage a 'velveteen rabbit' copy of that exists.
