Robert Venditti Off Constantine And Jim Zubkavich Off Birds Of Prey Already (UPDATE) - Make Room For Jeff Lemire, Ray Fawkes And Christy Marx - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

In a PR-arranged conversation with CBR, Bobbie Chase and Bob Harras announced that Robert Venditti and Jim Zubkavich has already been taken off their respective new comics in the DCU before their first issues had shipped. That Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes would be writing Constantine – if you remember, Ray Fawkes was to have taken over Batgirl before that decision was reversed – and that Christy Marx is to write Birds Of Prey – the first time a woman has written that title since Gail Simone.

So I've opted to complete the arc as planned, with maybe an added 'end of season' feel, and finish Saucer Country on an 'end of volume one' note, with a big outcome decided (the last three issues are set on election night) and one enormous (and complete) reveal of the truth behind one of our mysteries. But this will not be an ending, and you won't learn what really happened to Arcadia on the night she was abducted.

I know that'll disappoint our loyal audience. So I make this promise to you: I will, one day, finish Saucer Country, in one way or another, in a dramatically satisfying way. That is to say, I won't just put up the remainder of the plot on my blog or something, I'll find a professional means to actually complete the story, ideally in comic book form, or as a novel or, hey, go on, a movie. The rights revert to me reasonably soon. We'll work from there.

Comic Review: Todd, The Ugliest Kid On Earth #1 | Geeks of Doom

Kristensen writes Todd, The Ugliest Kid On Earth like Siegfried and/or Roy, pushing and poking wild jungle cats until they finally snap and leave him in a mass of torn and bloody sequins. The wild cats in this confusing metaphor are you and I, the reader. To Kristensen, no calf is too golden. Drunken abusive parents, little kids getting murdered, blood, and guts are all in a day’s work for this author and that might not sit so well with some folks. Sure, we can handle all types of murder and mayhem in drama books, but things get different when it’s in a comedy book. Put a child-killing axe murder next to a dick joke and some people may think you’re making light of some pretty heavy stuff. This of course is why I must restate that this book might not be for everyone.

If you can stomach all the wicked things going on between the pages of Todd, The Ugliest Kid On Earth, you’ll probably love this book. Prolific artist M.K Perker stuns in this book with his unique distorted character proportions and brilliant line work.

Todd, The Ugliest Kid On Earth is a brutal book both in terms of violence and content. As things stand, I doubt that Kristensen won’t ramp things down as this story progresses. It’s tough to say if this book will be universally loved. The only thing that can be said without a shadow of a doubt is that Kristensen and Perker are two endlessly talented individuals and Todd, The Ugliest Kid On Earth is the culmination of their shared vision. Give it a shot. You might be surprised.
