The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

Oh my god I ****ing HATE to be the guy that does this...

BUT....................

I really don't think it's appropriate to include George Bush and Mark Zuckerberg along with guys like Stalin and Hitler.

Frankly I don't even think Mark David Chapman belongs there either.

Tsk... I'm getting old and lame.

No, I actually am in the 'old guy lame corner' with you Doc. I thought these were kinda in poor taste in general and the artwork/style somehow made them moreso. I thought the Zuckerberg one was a little unecessary too. The Bush one...not going to argue too hard against it's inclusion. And Chapman, although not on the scale of the other mass murderers, well...he fits the bill. Just thought these were kinda like weird professional political graffiti you see sometimes. I was going through a bunch of old posters a while back and I found one I had of The Mass Murderer Last Supper. Don't know if anyones seen it, but where I had a perverse fascination with it in my younger years, it now just turns my stomach. So yeah. I agree with you.

Need some advice. Looking to buy a graphic novel for the iPad and it has come down to these:

Batman: Year One (which I am actually leaning towards)
DMZ (are all the Vertigo/DC titles the most expensive in comicdom??)
Marvel Zombie
Fallen Son (death of Cap)
Avengers: Red Zone

I know the answer will probably be "All the above" but I can't really afford all the titles.

What do you say everyone? I want good story and good graphics (not asking much, huh?).

I'm gonna go off the board Roenick...not sure if they are available
Marshall Law
The Boys

And...if you are gonna do any vertigo, and if you have not read...PREACHER. Yeah...Preacher. I have the entire run in bagged comics, the tpbs and If/when I get a kindle/Ipad/etc...it will more than likely be my first purchase.

So really appreciate the help. I have read The Boys and love them. Unfortunately very limited on titles with iPad. It has gotten better in the last few months though and they appear to be adding content. No Preacher and no Marshall Law. Not sure what to do now. Buy more regular books or save iTunes bucks for when they add the titles you mention.

Batman: Year One. No question.

DMZ is really good, but it's also a 60 issue series. Recommended.
I've only read the first Marvel Zombies mini-series and it was fun, but nothing special.
Fallen Son you can pass on. It was ok.
I've actually not read Avengers: Red Zone and am ok with that.

Batman: Year One is brilliant, though. Great art. While you're reading it, look for the bits Chris Nolan cribbed for Batman Begins. :)

Must buy indeed.

Bolland also did the covers for The Invisibles, which is like the greatest series ever. ;)

The dude is rocking it on the covers for Dial H right now.

Would love to see him do some more interior work, though. Guess I'll have to settle for that Dredd book. :)

Peter David is back on the convention circuit.

We arrived during opening ceremonies on Friday night, and when they announced my presence and brought me on stage, the response was a several minute standing ovation. I was, frankly, astounded at the response. I mean, I figured it was just me, you know? I hardly thought people’s response would be so vociferous. But it was, and I was deeply moved.

Very glad to hear it.

Vertigo Announce Two New ‘Fables’ Books, and an Unwritten Graphic Novel

The Fables news first. Building ever more material for Fablescon to revel in, the Fables Encyclopedia will be edited by Jess Nevins, and explore the original origins for all the main castmembers in the main series. It’ll then compare the traditional stories with Willingham’s more modern reinterpretations. Both Willingham and series mainstay Mark Buckingham have annotated the book, exploring the ideas and concepts which made it into Fables – and those which were left by the wayside. Adam Hughes is going to provide a wraparound cover for the book.

Ok, definitely going to buy that.

Hughes will also be responsible for the cover to Fairest of Them All, a one-off anthology spinning out of the spinoff series Fairest. Willingham will be writing all the short stories in this graphic novel, with a range of artists joining him for the stories – including that Adam Hughes feller once again, as well as Chrissie Zullo, Mark Chiarello, and Karl Kerschl.

Definitely buying that.

Tommy Taylor and the Ship That Sank Twice is the new graphic novel written by Mike Carey and laid out by Peter Gross, with Kurt Huggins and Zelda Devon pencilling. Devon, the DC press release reminds me, was the artist behind one of the very best Unwritten issues, which was set in a magical Beatrix Potter nightmare world. Yuko Shimizu will provide the cover for this story, which is as yet unrevealed to the internet. There are no details on the story yet, but this is Mike Carey’s first graphic novel set in the Unwritten universe, and it’ll be interesting to see just how he tackles the project.

I'm way behind on The Unwritten, damn. Need to get caught up.
