LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN TV Series in Development at Fox | Collider

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is getting another adaptation. Fox announced today that it has made a put pilot commitment for a drama series iteration of Alan Moore’s graphic novel series. “Put pilot” means that the network pays a penalty if the pilot for League never airs, so it’s nearly guaranteed that this thing will make it to airwaves. The new TV show is officially described thusly:

“A drama series based on Alan Moore’s critically and commercially successful graphic novel series about a group of Victorian-age literary characters, including Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, who team up to fight a common enemy.”

The source material was previously adapted by Fox for a live-action feature film starring Sean Connery, but we all know how that dreadful 2003 film turned out. Hit the jump for more on the proposed League TV series.

Per TV Line, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen already has a creative staff in place. Kings, Heroes, and The River showrunner Michael Green will serve as the writer/executive producer/showrunner on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, while Erwin Stoff (The Matrix) is also producing. There’s no word on whether the pilot would be ready for a fall bow or if the series is being prepped as a midseason replacement (or even a Fall 2014 show), but the development is obviously well underway.

Fox’s announcement comes at a curious time, as Showtime just recently ordered an eight-episode first season for the similarly-plotted horror series Penny Dreadful, with Skyfall scribe John Logan writing each episode, Sam Mendes producing, and Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) directing the first two episodes. That series also talks place in Victorian London and features famous literary characters like Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Grey, but one imagines the Showtime series will be considerably darker than Fox’s network offering. ABC also has its own “superhero team-up” series premiering this fall with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Inhumanity, By Matt Fraction, From Marvel Comics - Millions Of New Inhumans, An Old-Costumed Spider-Man, A New Costumed Wolverine And Nightcrawler's Back - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Called Inhumanity, it seems that there will be more Inhumans than ever before, dormant superpowers being activited, and now numbering in the millions. And the whole Marvel Universe gets involved.

Inhumanity is the name of the crossover as the Terrigen Mists spread across the world, triggering millions of dormant Inhumans and, well, basically giving us back the pre-”No More Mutants” Marvel Universe but with Inhumans instead.

Inhuman is the name of the book by Fraction.

And editor-in-chief Alex Alonso compares it to Game Of Thrones.

Best thing about that is the bringing into the fold of the Inhumans. means they factor into Marvel's plans. Sure, a lot of that depends on the Guardians of the Galaxy having success, which is a big if...but still. Looks like Marvel wants to compensate for Fox owning the Xmen and get some competition team wise.

Yeah, I was actually wondering if the whole "making normal people into Inhumans" is Marvel's way of compensating for Sony still having rights to the X-Men. If they really do go with a Game Of Thrones vibe, where Inhumans are set into separate "houses", they could possibly make a whole new, diverse franchise that would allow them to make X-Men movies under a different name.

Yeah...and tagging it with the Game of Thrones vibe sure is gonna make strangers to Inhumans a little more interested.
