The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

The mutant who deserved more Days of Future Past screen time isn't who you'd expect | Blastr

While Wolverine is gallivanting around in the past with the X-Men: First Class cast, though, Kitty Pryde is injured, and her future hold on Wolverine becomes tenuous. In order to preserve the time travel bond, then, the X-Men must find Rogue, who has the ability to absorb any mutant power. Unfortunately, Rogue is being held prisoner at Xavier Mansion, which has been transformed into a Sentinel-guarded military base, and the mission to find and rescue her — an expensive, lengthy sequence that involves Professor X, Magneto, and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) — was sliced from the film in postproduction after Fox executives worried it would pad the running time to over two and a half hours. Rogue is still brought in briefly to absorb Kitty's power and tend to Wolverine, but the machinations to get her there will now happen offscreen.
The thing is, if you've seen the movie, the "Rogue getting Kitty's powers" part didn't even happen

Well, that explains the whole mishandled story point. Why didn't they dump the part where Kitty got grievously wounded too. That makes NO SENSE. So yeah, add editing issues to the major violations of this mess.

I don't know, do we even need an Ant Man movie? I don't think I even know his real life alias. Arthur Pym?

However, if they make a film of such a minor character and it succeeds, at least we'll be close to my dream movie of Angar the Screamer.

Here or Sequels...either way.

In other news:

ANT-MAN Director Contenders Include ANCHORMAN's Adam McKay

The only name on here worth considering is McKay, but he or anyone else would be pretty much doomed from the start. This is locked in release date wise with an apparently dodgy script and key creative positions to fill. Couple that with a locked in cast that he may not agree with and there is very little that ANYONE can do to stop this from being a mess. If Marvel were really as smart as they have appeared to be, they would vacate the release date and let someone retool this to their liking. But nope...the machine will grind this out and they will hope for the best possible results.

Ant-Man is a ****show right now. Shelve it and bring me Doctor Strange or Black Panther.

ANT-MAN Director Frontrunner Emerges with Rawson Marshall Thurber

The folks over at The Wrap are reporting that Rawson Thurber is now the frontrunner to take over directing duties on Marvel?s Ant-Man, edging out McKay and Fleischer. Though the other two seemed like the more qualified candidates, McKay has a number of producorial commitments and also has his own directorial projects lined up (ie. he doesn?t ?need? Ant-Man). As for Fleischer, he could use a boost given that his last two films, Gangster Squad and 30 Minutes or Less, failed to take off, but the report notes that he and his wife just had a baby and he may not be willing to make this kind of commitment straight away.

So that leaves us with Thurber, who is hot off the somewhat surprise comedy hit We?re the Millers. Speaking candidly, none of these three filmmakers are known for their visual style, but Thurber has the least defined aesthetic of the bunch. He directed the 2004 comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and seems like a competent enough filmmaker, but he doesn?t really hold a candle to Wright. And maybe that?s how Marvel wants it. Given the time crunch, the studio is looking for someone who can apply their notes and essentially guide the ship in without rocking things too much, and that makes Thurber a suitable fit for the job. The revised script is apparently wildly different from Wright and Joe Cornish?s draft (complete with modern culture references), so Thurber may not be too tied down to Wright?s specific vision. Marvel is the author of Ant-Man now.

Read:Servicable/competent/not really established...in other words, desperate and without any ability to push back. Marvel done got themselves a puppet. Let's see how smart they really are and how much of their success has been driven by the creatives.
