The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

Watched Constantine. Wasn't too thrilled by it but I've never read his comics. Friday night death slot casualty? Did I read correctly that the girl was dropped after the pilot? PS: Nice to see a certain helmet though. :)

Those were the days, eh?

Re: Constantine, it was pretty much exactly what I expected. Parts I liked and some I didn't.

Going to keep watching it for now. Trying very hard to keep my feelings as objective as possible and treat this show as a stand-alone.

We'll see.

Rumor: Sony Developing All-Female SPIDER-MAN Team-Up Movie GLASS CEILING

But it sounds like Sony might even be going one better in its planned female Spider-Man spinoff. Devin at Badass Digest is hearing that the studio is developing a team-up movie based on an original concept not from the comics called Glass Ceiling (tentative title). The plan for this movie is for all the female Spider-Man characters to come together in one film. There are no specifics as to which characters will be used, but Devin throws out Black Cat, Silver Sable, Spider-Girl, Silk, and possibly Spider-Woman as likely inclusions.

Comic Creator James O’Barr Shares New Details on THE CROW; It’s a New Adaptation of the Comic, Not a Remake of the Movie

O’Barr further explained:

“We’re not remaking the movie, we’re readapting the book. My metaphor is that there is a Bela Lugosi Dracula and there’s a Francis Ford Coppola Dracula, they use the same material, but you still got two entirely different films. This one’s going to be closer to Taxi Driver or a John Woo film, and I think there’s room for both of them – part of the appeal of the Crow comics after all is that they can tell very different stories after all.”

I guess that is better than remaking the movie, because the movie, while adapting the source material, really had a unique style and vibe. The comic is kinda thin though, so something will have to be done to dress it up. First thing I have heard about this that has made me not automatically dismiss it.

Author Joe Hill Gives Update on the LOCKE & KEY Movie; Says Fox Passed on the TV Pilot Because It Was “Too Scary”

HILL: I hope so, too! To get the rights over to Universal, Universal had to cut a deal with Fox because of the pilot. I think it would be cool, if they made the Locke & Key film and it was a big hit, and then when it came out on Blu-ray, they had the unaired pilot as part of it. That would be awesome! I sometimes feel like that TV show is in its third hit season, in my imagination. In some ways, the really frustrating part is the sense that Fox passed on it because it was too scary, and yet meanwhile, at the exact same time, their sister channel FX was preparing to release American Horror Story, which is now a huge thing for them. It’s nothing against American Horror Story, but I do wish ours had been on. We came close. We had a pilot that people liked, and the success of American Horror Story suggests that maybe Locke & Key also could have been successful. But, it’s very tough to get a TV show on.

Shame on you Fox.

Second ep of Constantine was better but more like Sleepy Hollow. Is that a good thing?

I have really been enjoying the new 52 comics. My two favorite has been Suicide Squad and Aquman. My least favorite so far has been Birds of Prey and Justice League 3000.

Robert Kirkman’s gearing up to turn another comic series into a TV show and it’s already well worth keeping an eye on. It’s being reported that Almost Famous and Gone Girl star Patrick Fugit just landed the lead role in the Cinemax show Outcast and that The Guest and You’re Next’s Adam Wingard will direct the pilot episode.

Fugit will play Kyle Barnes, a young man who’s “been plagued by possession since he was a child.” Hit the jump for more on the exorcism drama.

outcast-comicAccording to Deadline, the series will follow Fugit’s character as he tries to find a reason for his condition, but winds up uncovering “something that could end all life on Earth as we know it” instead. Philip Glenister will step in as Reverend Anderson, “a hard drinking, hard gambling West Virginian evangelical preacher who believes he’s a soldier in God’s holy war against evil.” Gabriel Bateman (the little scene-stealer from Annabelle!) is also in the mix as Joshua Austin, an eight-year-old boy living across town “who appears to be possessed by a demon and has a mysterious connection to Kyle.”

Exclusive: Toby Kebbell Reveals Doctor Doom’s Radically New Origin in THE FANTASTIC FOUR Movie

And this is where it gets really interesting:

KEBBELL: He’s Victor Domashev, not Victor Von Doom in our story. And I’m sure I’ll be sent to jail for telling you that. The Doom in ours—I’m a programmer. Very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I’m “Doom”.
