But the chances of that, even with bad reviews, is actually slim. It may underperform, but with the imax/3d overages and general interest I have to imagine people won't stay away enough for it to be an epic fail. Combine that with overseas markets and it will make it's money. A first time(majors) director and stars that probably didn't break the bank...no, FF is primed to, at least, make it's money back. And remember, whenever something has this much publicity built up(albeit negative) the curiousity factor goes up.
 
Other than devoted comic book nerds and maybe kids who need a movie to see every weekend, who needs to see the same story that was told badly once, told again? And after it underperforms, does the studio really want it dragging the X-Men down?

Also, the Thing clearly does not translate to the real world.
 
So... I checked out some Convergence and some Secret War....

Am I just old and cranky or is this basically the same dumb gimmick for both companies? Do the young people like the new direction their going? It seems pointlessly noisy and chaotic and foreign but... I AM old and cranky.

No. I am old...cranky-ish, but I agree with you. It's a blatant attempt to reshuffle, sell more meaningless #1 issues, in Marvel's case, pander to the 'there aren't enough female/minority characters' crowd, and generally spin the continuity wheel...just to reset it again in a year when half the new titles fail. Oh yeah, and Marvel gets to reconfigure Wolverine a couple more times and cash that paycheck in at the expense of the innocent consumers.

Yup, I guess I am cranky after all.

Pretty much, yes. At this point, I imagine just about every single person in the audience knows we're on endless cycle mode by now.

I am enjoying Secret Wars, myself.

The long running comic book anthology of salacious sci-fi, swords, and sorcery is now owned by Chew and Peter Panzerfaust producer Jeff Krelitz as well as David Boxenbaum, former music industry exec.

And they’ve put the Big Yin in charge.

Not only that but he will be writing stories and strips for the magazine, and is targeting the likes of Chris Burnham and Frazer Irving. And that his will be his focus for the next year or two…

AfterShock Comics Enlists Garth Ennis, Neil Gaiman And More

Garth Ennis, Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti and Paul Jenkins are among the first wave of writers working on creator-owned projects for publishing startup AfterShock Comics.

According to Deadline, they're joined by Justin Jordan, Frank Barbiere and Marguerite Bennett. Neil Gaiman, Jim Starlin, Amy Chu and Brian Stelfreeze have also signed on for the company's first short-story anthology.

Mike Marts left his job as executive editor at Marvel in April to help Caliber Comics veteran Joe Pruett launch AfterShock.
