The other teams thread

i was really mad at that game. skinner sucks. how do we not score there. game 2 and 4 were the only playoff feeling games.
It’s just so funny because the Kings whole approach to beating the Oilers is the exact opposite of what actually works against them.

The Kings employ a passive reactive system, you don’t even need to use the technical term 1-3-1 to describe it. It goes beyond the formation. It’s the mindset.

Let the Oilers do almost anything they want as long as it comes from outside the faceoff dots and wait for them to make a mistake. That’s it. Stand around and wait.

With this approach you’re forcing your defenders to make the right play every single time waiting on the chance that the Oilers make a mistake. And if you do pounce on that one mistake you better score because if you don’t you aren’t in any position to generate more offensive chances.

Whoever came up with this approach just completely failed at correctly scouting the Oilers.

Yep, need more pressure up ice to slow down Mcraisaitl

It’s just mind boggling because we’ve seen it for years the Oilers are not a good defensive team. They win because teams usually can’t match them in a track meet style wide open game.

However that style of game can just as easily burn them when their goaltending is weak. That’s what happened in game 1 vs. the Canucks. Oilers were comfortably winning the track meet up 4-1 then Draisaitl got hurt and Skinner stunk up the joint. The wheels fell off and they had no way of slowing down the Canucks attack.

Vancouver didn’t passively sit back clogging up the middle of the ice. They hounded the Oilers d-men and threw everything at Skinner and it worked.

The 1 3 1 is like defending the pp as the opposing players build up speed

Edmonton’s offense is unstoppable.

Not true, they can definitely be beaten. It’s just that the Kings defensive system fit their offensive system like a glove. And then, of course (ahem) special teams. But I think the Kings made them look more imposing than they really are

It really helps when The German misses shifts due to cramps.

Canucks are proving the best way to play defense against the Oilers is through puck possession. Just keep the puck away from McDavid and he can’t score. It ain’t rocket surgery!

And if we look back at the Kings Oilers series the one game where the Kings actually outplayed the Oilers and should’ve won was Game 4 the 1-0 Oilers victory. The Kings out shot the Oilers 33-13 but the impotent passive offensive attack of the Kings couldn’t even score on Skinner. Really embarrassing.
"It ain’t rocket surgery!" HaHa.....now THAT'S funny!!!!!

Glad Canes tied it late. Hopefully they pull it out just to make it more of a series.

43 shots before they got the second goal. Broken play right in the slot.

Their PP is just as atrocious as the Kings.

Wow, pull the goalie make it a one goal game. Then draw a penalty shortly after. Dallas may just choke here.

Canucks start hot. Up 1-0 5 minutes in. They’ve got a blanket over McDavid. He was completely bottled up in Game 1 and the start to Game 2. It’ll be interesting to see how the Oilers adjust their strategy beyond just loading up the 1st line.

Canucks take the lead but I would be pissed if I were a Canucks fan. Refs refuse to call a blatant double minor high stick by McDavid on Hughes then with seconds left in the period a very soft interference penalty called against Suter when he bumps McDavid. Crazy.
