The other teams thread

I bet Tavares does take a pay cut to stay in Toronto. Matthews stays a Leaf for as long as he wants and Marner is coming to LA. It’s the perfect fit for a guy who is sick of living in a fish bowl and a team who needs a superstar.

Sorry, but I'd rather coldly pass on Marner. He's not worth the investment that the Kings need when it comes to playoff performance.

I was so excited to have a day off where not only could I watch a game, but a game 7. What a dud. Toronto didn't even show up. I'm starting to think not winning is all in their heads.

I'd still take Marner though.

I just don't understand why Marner would consider LA? High state income tax. Playing for Hiller. Little chance of winning. Is Anon that big of a draw?

My face if we get a Cats/Oilers rematch in the SCF.

LA and Toronto have comparable tax rates. If he comes to LA it bumps the team up into Top 3 in the conference. Not sure any of the other teams who can afford him can say the same. He would be joining a playoff team as the final piece not a centerpiece. If he wants out from under the magnifying glass of Toronto, LA will afford him that opportunity.

Was there a problem between Marner and Hiller when both were in Toronto? Hopefully, Hiller has learned from his poorly conceived game plans and inept on-the-fly decisions. At least that’s what the GM says… I really thought we would see Kings vs Stars in the WCF. The team was good enough to get that far.

100%. Added to this, he is unlikely to be the centerpiece in Toronto as long as Matthews is with the team. On the flip side, Tavares leaving (if he does) likely makes more ice time for Marner, Matthews and Nylander in key situations and made be incentive for him to stay.

He does seem to be the constant whipping boy in Toronto, though, anytime things go wrong.

IMO, I believe Marner is soft and wears down in a tough series. Look at the teams that are still standing. Physical teams that will pound you. Even Edmonton has few physical players. Toronto laid down, I know it just wasn't Marner; however, they were physically beaten, and he was a big part. I believe Matthews is soft as well.

It's a fair point - Marner really seems like the type of player better suited for the regular season than playoffs. Then again, so does Marchessault and he recently won a Conn Smythe.

Between the two, Marner is the far superior player so I don't buy into the fact that he can't handle a deep playoff run. That said, to be fair, the jury is out until he completes a deep playoff run.

ICEE!!!! You're back. It has been a couple months. Glad to see you posting again.

And yes, Marnet seems to wear down. One of the all-time greats-- Mike Gartner-- had a rep as a playoff choker. IDK if it was fair or not but his game didn't translate well to the playoffs. And he was on teams (80s Caps, early 90s Rangers) which always seemed to underachieve. Is the rumor real or is the guy a victim of his team? IDK but it could be a very expensive gamble to sign Marner.

I don’t know if I see the same magic in this Florida team vs. last year. They failed to close out a floundering lifeless Leafs team at home and Toronto gave them more than they could handle in Games 1 & 2 and tied it up late in the 3rd period of Game 3 to send it to OT. I think the Panthers are vulnerable. Carolina is going to make their lives hell.
We'll see. My cats took game 1. Maurice is a great coach and Florida is just amazing top to bottom. Barkov is great and Tkachuk is great but they really are what the Kings should be aspiring to be. Big D which wears you down and uses their length to tie you up with sticks and keep gaps to a minimum. Forwards which are good but no real superstars but they just hammer you all playoffs long and have some of the best top-9 and top-12.

Game 2 and beyond will show if Anderson+Canes had an off game or if he padded his stats against a weak NJ team and an average Caps team.

Hard to believe Forsling was a waiver pickup from Chicago. That dude is exactly the kind of player that wins championships. Blackhawks are still a mess.

I don't have a good feeling about this game, I kinda hate myself for saying this - PLEASE STARS BEAT THE OILERS PLEASE!!!!!! Anyone But Oilers for the Cup!!!!!
