The other teams thread

Florida will win, the oil has the Corey Perry finals curse.
Ha ha!

Yep, the dreaded Corey Perry Curse lives on!

I think I located a photo from the exact moment he was cursed...when he was still with the Ducks...verses the Kings, of course:

This isn't a who do we want to win, but a who do you want to lose more finals. And I'm torn.

Screw you, Dallas. You choked again at the worst possible time just like what Vancouver did and now got eliminated by Deadmonton. Just utterly inexcusable. Now it's all Florida for all of us, despite Tkachuk being on that team. This Cup Finals is going to be one very interesting matchup. As much as I hate M. Tkachuk, I hope he gives McOverrated, Crysaitl, Kane, and especially Perry their just desserts. Oh, and Skinner is not an elite goalie as he's like a modern-day Chris Osgood. He just hasn't been tested that much in the playoffs thanks to the Oilers D and McDouchebag and company.

Watched Dallas dominate the Kings with their eyes closed this year just to emulate them against the despicable Oilers. Although even the Kings hit more than this.
It really surprised how Dallas just rolled over and play dead. The spotlight seemed too bright for far too many high dollar players on the Stars. I pointed out Heiskanen earlier this thread. Matt Duchene was abysmal. Pavelski invisible. Robertson wasn’t good enough. Faksa wasn’t productive. The offensive depth was a mirage.

I just woke up and all I can say is

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I guess it's good cause now we can say we lost to the west coast champs.

Don't f*** this up Panthers.

It was very strange. Weirder yet is that VAN backed by SILOVS gave the Oil the most trouble, though they played them hard. Have to play physical against the Oilers which DAL did not do. McDavid pantsed them, even in a game where the Oil only got 10 shots off.

FL will be physical, to say the very least.

Dallas, you had one job you asshats.

But I'm not surprised... they got playoff choker in Pavelski on their team after all.

The Panthers have two chances to win:

1.) Be physical and get deep into McDickhead's cranium and throw him off his game.
2.) Get World Class goaltending from Bobrovsky.

If Florida can do both, they win.

I despise Evander Kane . . .
but I despise Sam Bennett more . . .
and of course, there's Mathew Tkachuk . . . .

I'll never view anything Florida in any kind of positive light. Leaning Alberta . . . .

Well, unfortunately, there's also McPrincess (who is basically Sidney Crosby West), Crysaitl (who is basically Evgeni Malkin but whinier), and especially Perry (who we know all too well is a former Duck player who won the Cup with them back in '07 and we Kings fans will never forgive them for it and won't ever forget either as he is still a dirty agitator who can score at will even in his twilight years) on that Deadmonton team, not just E. Kane, and that alone makes them a whole lot more unlikable than Florida. Generally speaking, any team that has Perry and, optionally, E. Kane in their roster is going to be automatically unlikable and this year's Soilers are no exception. So, Florida is just the lesser of two evils, despite M. Tkachuk and Bennett in their roster. And I'm sticking with Florida no matter what in the Cup Finals 'cause Deadmonton has just about the worst, most annoying fans in Canada outside of Toronto.

OK …
Now we are down to two teams.
Really, I can’t say I care about anything other than the Oilers losing. While I think Florida is a talented team I cannot say I am a fan.

Most of my anti-Edmonton sentiment is that I just don’t respect how they play. While Connor and Leon are terrifically skilled, I just don’t think they are honest players. Add in Kane, Perry, etc and I just can’t…

Watching the playoff rounds it really brought back the irritation over how the Kings played this year, and not just in the playoffs.
I saw almost all the teams were very active. There was movement, players on their toes as opposed to flat-footed, reading, anticipating, anxious to get in the play.

Throughout the season I noticed how frequently the Kings stood around and watched. Instead of reacting it was watchful waiting, then seeing if someone else was willing to do the work.
It seemed pretty clear that the Kings just did not compete, that there was a problem with their competitive spirit. The Kings just looked like a lazy team. That’s inexcusable. There is a lot in sports that players cannot control. But effort is not one. The Kings were pretty consistently not even showing up.

I know there has been a lot of anger and emotion about the GM, the Coach, the Scouting…

But, at least for me, I place most of the spotlight on the players. It seemed very apparent that this roster just never committed to getting it done. They took the easy path.

I know there are fans who wanted a pound of flesh. I’m not here to judge that. But again, the focus on blaming the organization has given the players a pass. I think that’s missing the important picture.

Lots of comments have been about Blake not getting the results. It’s fair to examine that. As I’ve said previously I don’t care whether he is the GM or not. I could care less, to be honest. The same goes for TM, Hiller, or an unknown. I’m not attached to any of them.

My curiosity though is about why the players, SPECIFICALLY THE LEADERS, have faced no accountability.
I love Kopi. Our dog is named after him! He’s been a great player, and will never be given the respect he has earned.
I love Dewey. He’s still a great player. Both will be in the rafters.

But…
We have continued to discuss Blake’s failure to win a playoff round. How many playoff rounds have the Kings won since Kopi became Captain? Or since Doughty started wearing the A?

It’s been easy for me to dismiss the criticisms of the organization because I feel the real problem is in the locker room. I just don’t think there is the required leadership.
While I suspect there are players who can be leaders, it’s pretty difficult when the actual leaders impede that. Just the presence of Kopi and Doughty make that difficult with their status within the organization.
Every team needs a voice. It certainly appears that the Kings do not have one.

I don’t know what the answer is to this. But I am believer in leading or getting out of the way.

I’m looking forward to this matchup. It’s nice to have a Final with two teams who have a distinct contrast in style. At this point I have to give the edge to Edmonton. Their high skill guys are just better than the best of Florida.

If Florida can make life hell for Skinner with traffic and physicality around the crease then give me the Panthers in 6. If not I say the Oilers in 5.

I'd love to have either Tkachuk or Bennett on the Kings, so I can't hate them like I did say, a Brian Marchment or Raffi Torres. I just don't want to see Edmonton succeed because I've grown to loathe them over the years.
Yup.

I'm constitutionally incapable of rooting for the Oilers. Between Perry and Kane, that's a whole lotta hate.

And it's funny...as much as I don't like Tkachuk, I can't wait to see him rough up that scum from Edmonton. If he gets under their skin, they may stray from their normal game. I think that's the key to victory. Play gritty and nasty and make them pay.

But more than anything else, I believe this comes down to goaltending, and Bobrovsky is elite.

Don't underestimate the toll their first two series (against VGK and Colorado) had on them. Both long series against the last two champions. Still, I wouldn't call outshooting a team 35-10 (as they did last night) rolling over and playing dead. Robertson has 9 SOG.

What annoys me about the Oilers is that they seam to now relying on scoring 2 pp goals a game, and then just locking it down and winning games when they're outshot by a large margin (like they did against the Kings in game 4). They're a great team for sure, but that won't work against Florida (as the Rangers found out). Also, as was mentioned last night on NHL network, the Panthers have gone through Vasilevsky, Swayman, and Shesterkin to reach the final. Those are two of the best three of the goalies in the world (Shesterkin is tops, and Vasilevsky had that distinction very recently), with Swayman pretty darn good himself. Skinner is good, but not that type of good.

Prediction (heart and head): Panthers in six.

Well stated! Excellent summary!

I agree 100%

And as I posted a few times in this thread, I still think it's ultimately going to come down to goaltending, and Bobrovsky gives them a huge edge.

Panthers in six

The cup will boil down to special teams. If the Panthers can stay out of the box and play their game, I see them taking in 6.
