The other teams thread

Still, I wouldn't call outshooting a team 35-10 (as they did last night) rolling over and playing dead. Robertson has 9 SOG.
The Oilers deployed the exact same playbook vs the Kings in Game 4 of the 1st round matchup. Score on the PP and play bend don’t break defense. Yes the Stars, like the Kings, dominated in shot total but neither team was better than the Oilers. And both the Stars and Kings rolled over and accepted their fate.

The Stars had multiple opportunities before Game 6 to win the series but they continually fumbled away PP after PP opportunity and their offense repeatedly went ice cold 5 on 5. Hell the Canucks had even more opportunities to put down the Oilers and they couldn’t do it either.

At some point the Oilers team defense and goaltending deserves recognition.

While I can begrudgingly give credit to the Oilers' D for managing to clamp down on the O that the Kings, Canucks, and Stars were so desperately attempting to double down on, I have doubts about their goaltending. Skinner, while he isn't exactly chopped liver himself, isn't that great of a goalie as he plays like a modern-day Osgood and hasn't been tested in net that often thanks to their D as well as McOverrated and company bailing him out. The Panthers are going to represent the biggest challenge to the Oilers in the Cup Finals as not only do they have the grit and scoring ability to match but they have an elite goaltender in Bobrovsky. If the Panthers don't wilt out the way Dallas and Vancouver did, then the Oilers will have a real difficult time to contain them and win the Finals.

To me, my guess is going to be Panthers in 6 games in the Finals.

Gotta give Skinner credit...he made some big saves...some were even spectacular.

He'll need to be spectacular against Florida with that guy in the other net.
I wonder how chippy this series will get with Kane on one side and Tkachuk on the other.

So far the Oilers have stayed pretty focused on business, but Florida might goad them out of that with physicality.
Not a big Tkachuk fan, but I hope he makes Kane eat some teeth.

McDickhead is a punk and he gets rattled when he gets hit repeatedly. He has no problem taking cheap shots...
like he did in the last game... but if you hit him often enough, you can get in his head.

I'm really looking forward to this series...

I'd love to have either Tkachuk or Bennett on the Kings, so I can't hate them like I did say, a Brian Marchment or Raffi Torres. I just don't want to see Edmonton succeed because I've grown to loathe them over the years.
I can see why you don't like Tkachuk from his days in Calgary but why don't you like Sam Bennett?

I have to admit that the Oilers are better than I want to give credit for. I’m nauseous typing that.
But their three rounds have offered a bit more clarity to the Kings series.
I was disgusted with the Kings PP but after seeing two other teams struggle similarly to the Kings I guess you gotta think the EDM PK is really good. Maybe the issue was more them than our lack of performance.

Overall after seeing EDM play three series I think my takeaway is that the Kings aren’t as far off as I thought.

As for the Finals I think FLA wins in 6 or 7.
Stronger goalie, probably deeper, and more importantly, they’ve got experience.

I’m slightly concerned that the Oilers PP looks to be heating up. And it’s gonna be tough for FLA if they can’t get PP production. No team will beat EDM if special teams gives them a 2-goal advantage every night.

The Panthers have two chances to win:

1.) Be physical and get deep into McDickhead's cranium and throw him off his game.
2.) Get World Class goaltending from Bobrovsky.

If Florida can do both, they win.
That needs to be the plan, for sure. I’d add the two-way play of Barkov.

And while one of the main reasons I so loathe EDM fans is their brain-fried crying about the refs, I’m admittedly a little concerned about more friendly reffing this series for the Oil. They’ve had it easy all playoffs. Two embellishment penalties have been called now against teams they play? What is that!

Their PK is suddenly all-world so mostly hoping special teams just aren’t a factor for either team. Your point number two on Bob will go a long way towards helping that be the case.

Definitely expected this. Joe looked like he was completely done in the playoffs. Pretty amazing that he was 2nd on the team in scoring this season with 27 goals and 67 points. Congrats on a great career Joe.

Players shouldn't make decisions like this until they can decompress from the elimination.
Come September, he will be changing his mind because it is his lifestyle.

I like Florida in this series, however, the Oilers have been disappointing me for the last few rounds so I really can't bet against them.
As long as Corey Perry doesn't touch the cup...that's all I care about.
He has touched the cup.

I just heard something interesting on NHL radio. This is the furthest geographically away from each other any two teams have been in the Cup Final, Edmonton to Sunrise FL. Apparently they are adding an extra off-day to the schedule between the city changing games.

Chris Osgood has three Cup rings, two from when he was a starter. Now I will grant you, he was playing on a stacked Red Wing team, but still, Cups are Cups . . . and his runneth over.

Ya' know, I never understood why that's such a big deal. Edmonton to Sunrise Florida is about 250 miles farther than LA to NY.

They're flying first class. If they were on a bus or a train, I'd understand the travel issue.

The way these pampered athletes complain about travel, you think they were going by covered wagon.

It can become a factor in a 7 game series (especially during the last 3 games) when it comes to dehydration and sleep cycles. There has also been heightened awareness around potential blood pressure changes and blot clots lately. At some point, between the regular season and making it to the NHL Finals, the travel begins to add up.

Personally I think it is a good move on the NHLs part.
