The other teams thread

Don't forget, due to weather delays, the Panthers landed in Edmonton with less than 24 hours before game 4. I believe that took a toll on them. I think the Oilers and their rabid fans are going to be in for a shock when the Panthers get back to hard checking, timely goals, and a stone wall of a goaltender.

That's their own fault. They choose to stay home instead of getting to Edmonton early.

But the Panthers players and coaches insist it wasn't a factor and they only lost three hours.

I say go early and avoid any unnecessary drama. Mother Nature is too unpredictable.

And Florida better not blow this thing. If the Oilers win Tuesday in Florida, watch out. They'll go back to Edmonton breathing fire and just might make history. If it gets pushed to seven games, the Panthers are toast.

While I agree with some of this I think it’s important to consider that the game that wins the Cup is a different deal than anything a team has experienced. We saw it with the Kings in both ‘12 and ‘14.
Players have a couple days to think about what one more win means. Lots of distractions enter the mind. It’s like nothing most players have ever felt.
Game 4 was an odd game. I hardly think it turned the series. Yeah, it was a blowout. After the third EDM goal the Panthers started looking to game 5.
I think FL be will be fine.
Put it this way—-I’d rather be up 3-1 with three chances to win, with two at home.

This ^^

In the first round the Panthers were up 3-0 on the lightning, gave up 6 goals in game 4 and lost by 3. They came back in game 5 and won 6-1 and took the series in 5 games.

In the second round the Bruins won game 1 by a score of 5-1. The next game the Panthers won 6-1.

I think that the Panthers will be fine.

I'm not worried about the Panthers finishing the Oilers off in 5. They will. Edmonton is a good team so winning one wasn't unexpected especially at home.

Just as I wrote at the beginning of this series, it's gonna come down to Bobrovsky. If he's on his game, it's over tomorrow. If he's off, like he was Saturday night...

...it makes me physically ill to think the Oilers could came back and make history. They'd be only one of two teams that came back from an 0-3 deficit in the Finals, and the first since the Leafs in 1942.

Please God, do not let that happen.

They won't. No way Florida loses 4 in a row.

Worst way Edmonton could win a game for their own sake is via absolute blowout. Hockey players are proud and squeakers where you’re close and don’t do it are what break teams’ spirits. Blowouts just p*ss you off.

I'm not going to lie, given the Oilers see-saw season, I'm a bit nervous that they could turn this around and make it a series.
I have to admit, I'm also a bit concerned.

I don't care if it takes Game 5 or Game 6 or Game 7, I just don't want Edmonton making a historical comeback.

What do I have against the Oilers? I hate them, every litttle bit of them. And this goes back to the 70's...and was ramped up ever since the days of Dave Semenko in the 80's...and I'll never forget the night Esa Tikkanen elbowed my favorite player (Bernie Nicholls) in the face, right in front of me, I think in 1987.

They've always been scumbags, even their coaches (Glen Sather was The Worst), and that legacy of scumbaggery lives on.

As bad as the last game was, I LOVED seeing Tkachuk sucker punch McDickhead (three times!). Hopefully there will be more of that tonight. I hope they stomp the OIlers guts out.

If the Panthers lose tonight, my concern will be highly elevated. Going back to Edmonton for Game 6 up one game is not an ideal situation.

The Panthers have to win tonight.

I don't think that the Cats lose the series, but I don't think that they win tonight, ugh.

I feel like the Oilers running on all cylinders like they did last game isn't gonna evaporate that quickly. 😬

Seems like we have some nervous people!
I do not dismiss the anxiety about how this series is going to play out.
Mostly, I think this stress is of course due to our undying disgust (even hate) for the Oilers.
Speaking only for myself, I despise EDM. Top to bottom, everything about them makes me sick and angry. I despise them so much it makes me sick just to even begin to list all the reasons.

As was pointed out, the Oilers have certainly had streaks this year where they were rolling. That’s a cause for concern.

One thing I believe about the Oilers is that they are front runners. They’re fine when things are going their way. They play great when it’s easy.
I don’t think they are the type of team that gets out of a rut easily.

Early in the series EDM looked a bit scared of the bright lights. One thing the 3-0 hole did was get past the fear of losing. Game 3 in particular took away the Oilers hope. They looked defeated. Game 4 actually gave them some hope. That game was just strange. Early FL seemed OK, hit a couple posts, had some pretty good chances. But a few uncommon Panther breakdowns allowed the Oilers some goals and off they went. The game got away from FL and the Oilers piled on.

From the outset FL has been the better, deeper and more experienced team. They also have the better goalie, and the better defense.

I honestly doubt Game 4 meant much of anything to the Panthers. I seriously doubt it did anything to cause them to lose any confidence. JFC, they are still up 3-1!

I suspect Game 4 was nothing more than a blip. I expect FL to show up ready to win tonight. And I think they will.

FLA had won 6 in a row before the game 4 swamping. I think that once they got down by 2 then 3 as things snowballed they kind of took a sort of psychological well, we can't win 'em all attitude. I expect them to come out focused and cup worthy tonight. Go Cats Go!

I certainly hope not.

But I don't think it's a stretch to say this is a must-win game for the Panthers.
It's a stretch. These are closely matched teams with Florida being slightly better. Each game is a coin toss. Oilers have 12% chance of getting tails 3x in a row.

In the last AHL round, Hershey was up 3-0. Then series was tied 3-3. I think game 7 even went to OT and the Bears pulled it out.

I imagine the Oilers fans are saying this line of bullshit-- "We win game 5 tonight to come home down 3-2. Then we're at home and win that with home ice to tie it 3-3. Then we have all the momentum and Florida is super scared in game 7 and we win it all". They have to rationalize things somehow.

Well, Game 5 is now underway. Come on, Cats, get back to your usual dominant form that you displayed in the first two games of this season's Cup Finals. No time or room to laze around and let the Soilers take over the whole game. This is not the regular season for crying out loud.

Boo, Soilers score. On an SHG no less. The Panthers misplayed that pass that led to the breakaway and SHG. Please, Florida, stop with the miscues, especially since you committed so many of them back in Game 4 that it wasn't funny.
