The Pacific Division Thread

The Oilers and Utah are tied 4-4 after 2.The Oilers had a 3-1 lead after 1.Vegas and Vancouver are tied 1-1 after 2.The Preds just scored at 19:11 in the second period to lead 3-0 after 2.As we all know,a 3-0 lead in hockey is a bad omen, and the Preds seem to fall apart in the third period.Although last night, the Preds scored last in the third period vs the Kings to tie the game at 2-2 and force OT and get at least a point out of the game

Well the Kings got no help tonight,as Utah came back from a 1st period 3-1 deficit,,force OT and win in OT 6-5 on a PPG by Keller.Begas survived a Vancouver PP with 1:22 left in the 3rd period to win the game 2-1.Finally,the Ducks got shutout 5-0 by the Preds, which puts them back in the WC2 spot with 83 points and now the Kings on the outside looking in.So at the end of the evening,Vegas and the Oilers are tied at the top of the Pacific Division with 88 points and the Ducks in 3rd place at 87 points. With Utah’s win tonight, they now have 88 points in the WC1 spot.So the Kings now are 4 points out of 3rd place and 5 points out of 1st place in the Pacific Division. Here is the updated version on the WC2/Pacific Division standings:

Ducks aren’t helping anyone tonight, especially themselves. Down 2-0 to Nashville in the second and already look beaten. Ducks just can’t score during this slump.

I was correct that they aren't there yet to make a serious case for themselves, elite coach and all.

Offense can be very streaky. Solid and reliable defense and goaltending much, much less so.

Ducks play the preds again as their last game. They also play Mammoth and Wild. Otherwise they have a game against VAN. Could they go 1-3, and Kings 3-1-1 and pass them?

Sharks’ schedule is even lighter than the Kings, however.

Ducks have lost 6 straight, picking up only 1 pity point in the process. Five of the six games were against non-playoff teams. They've been outscored 29-14 in that stretch. Their going 1-3 is a definite possibility.
