The Pacific Division Thread

I lived in the Bay Area for a couple years and went to a lot of Sharks games during that time (late 90's / early 2000's). It was always a great experience and the fans were fun even when I wore my Kings jersey. I'm not sure when the "Beat LA" chants started but I don't remember it from back then (maybe because I always sat in the rowdy section and there were better things to chant). I agree with you, though, it's pretty sad to be chanting that and the internet fans, these days, are pretty intolerable.

I was too young to remember back then, but I've heard of instances of SJ fans chanting "Check Gretzky" back then when Gretzky was playing for the Kings that time when the Kings were playing in the old Cow Palace. Another case of SJ/SF/Bay Area fans being intolerable.

Yeah - many fans would get frustrated due to their team not checking Gretzky and didn't understand why, so they would yell stuff like that. Reality was, their team was attempting it but Gretzky was very slippery and when an opposing player tried to check him he would usually burn them with a sweet pass / goal or simply anticipate and slip around them.

I attribute it the fans there being in the early stages of learning hockey. No excuse these days though.
